new rear tire i'm lovin the gp1

Well got rid of the stock tire after 5200 miles and loaded up the IRC GP1 trails, man these are some sweet tires. The are nice and aggresive but don't make much noise and are nice on the street.I was looking for a true 50/50 tire and I think I made the right choice, I only have 100 miles on them so far but I really like the way they handle on the street and eatup the dirt. I was about to get the dunlop d606 but went with the IRc due to the noise factor with the 606. I posted some pics of the old tire and the new tire, they are in a folder called klr tire change check them out in my yahoo photo album http://photos.yahoo.com/dbdolan101 Later, Bryan Dolan KLR 650 A19 Houston, Tx

Ditto. I've been running the GP-1's for about 500 miles now, and they just feel like the perfect tire for this bike. I know they won't last as long as the Kenda's, and they're more expensive to boot, but they're just great f'ing tires. Also, and maybe this deserves another thread, but despite the jump in gas prices I've been running Premium gas in my A9 (about 37,000 miles on 'er) for the last few tanks, and it's pretty much eliminated the popping and backfiring I used to get whenever I downshifted. Basically the engine's been running smoother and cooler enough that it's very much worth the extra $0.50 - $1.00 per tank. BE SF, A9

Thats real interesting. I'm a proponent of regular gas where possible but the popping really is annoying. IN spite of my adjustment of the pilot needle mine still does this on occasion. I"ll try some premium.

My KLR is bone stock. I love it just the way it is. If I could gain 5 horsepower, I would just want another 5 horses six months later. So why bother. Your last paragraph is an excellent analogy. Rick A17 more wrote: What I've noticed is a goodly percentage of the comments are about making modifications to the machine (i.e. improvements)- whether they be on the exhaust, carbs, aerodynamics etc. It's occured to me that no one has said simply "leave the ---- thing alone, feed it good oil, watch the valve clearence and ride it for as long as you can". I, for one, look at modifications like taking medication - when the overall system is messed with there's often a side effect that can be worse than the problem you're attempting to cure.
