engine stalling problem

Post by efax1007 » Sun Aug 14, 2005 10:23 am

just bought a 93 KLR. It runs good until it gets hot, then dies. Temp gage isn't working, so not sure how hot its getting. I replaced the vacumm hose from the petcock to the carb and flushed the cooling system and replaced coolant with no avail. next step is probably temp gage but if it is overheating wouldn't I get cooling system overspill? If it is overheating, what do I do next? Rad. looks beat up with lots of fins dented up but shouldn't be enough to justify replacing. Anyone have overheating problems?

engine stalling problem

I have a 93 klr also. The system is a closed system and shouldn't over flow. If it does you have much bigger problems than ;you think. If the system is getting too hot then it could be 2 things. #1. thermostat not working #2. rad is not allowing coolant to flow through quickly enough thus... overheating. Sounds to me it's the ladder of the two since you said your rad is a tad beat up. By the way THE FINS MEAN EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!! that is what begins the cooling process in your rad. After the bike warms up or shuts down is the rad hot??? if not then it's the thermostat or maybe even the pump the bike is equipped with an automatic shut down if engine gets too hot so more damage doesn't happen -----Original Message----- From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com]On Behalf Of scott quillen Sent: Sunday, August 14, 2005 11:34 AM To: efax1007; DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] engine stalling problem How bout the thermostat?
