Well figured out my squeaking noise, everytime i rode there would be a squeaking noise, I figured out that one of the rubber grommets that hold the front of the tanks was missing, Plus I use some spray seal a gasket ....no more squeaks.... I have a 05 KLR A19, do you think I will need a doohickey?? or was it made better in my year? I need a better seat bad.... just cant afford the corbin yet... Hey all I am 32 years old, what are some of the ages of the riders out there riding a KLR, alot of people say i am too old to ride one of these... But i love it..

Hi Jim, I am a few months short of 65 years old! I have put almost three thousand miles on my KLR in the last two weeks! (I am retired and have the time). Half of those miles were on knarly dirt and gravel forest roads with fully loaded panniers and camp gear. Tis a good all around ride (if the gear spacing was better it would be great).. JR

Too old??? There is an interesting concept. I will turn 50 on friday and looking at the ages of people who have put their ages in messages in the past I thought I was too young to ride a KLR. Don A18 in Bahrain

Unfortunately, Jim, all the stock doohickeys are made to the same level of quality, i.e. not very good. Even more insidiously, some folks are able to ride for tens of thousands of miles without a stock doohickey problem, while others can't even go 500 miles before the stock doohickey malfunctions or breaks. The upside? There are high quality, readily available replacements that fix the problem. Even better, fixing your doohickey gives you the opportunity to meets some other KLR riders in your area as you share tools, beers, and garage space. To be honest, though, there are two schools of thought about replacing the doohickey: 1) If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and 2) Fix it and be done with it so you don't have to worry about when it might go bad. Me? I lean towards #2. -- Blake Sobiloff San Jose, CA (USA)
