My warranty expired about a week before my cooling fan stopped working. I'm just a little concerned since the bike is just over a year old. Last week the northeast USA was hit by a heat wave. I was stuck in traffic for about 15 minutes when I noticed that my temperature gauge was at max. Scared the *&^% out of me because I really didn't know how long it was at max. I immediately pulled over to let it cool down. It made me realize just how important the fan is and how much depends on the operation of the fan. Before I bought the bike, the Kawasaki literature made it sound like the fan was just an extra measure or added protection from heat. I now know that its paramount to the operation of the bike. I think I'm going to do the override mod so I can turn the fan on manually. Anyone else have their fan stop working on a relatively new KRL650? I hope this isn't a persistent problem. Anyway, I haven't trouble shooted it yet so I don't know if its the switch, relay, or the fan itself. This is my weekend project. -Brian Shepard Philadelphia PA A13

Yep, happened to me in traffic at Daytona last month. I finally found the dang fuse....yesterday! and that was fine. So now it is the relay or a loose wire. So now I have to hit up radio shack for a volotmeter thingy. I hate electric stuff, can someone tell me what the heck to get and how the heck to use it? Has anyone replaced this relay with an aftermarket one, i.e., something from Pep Boys fro a tenth the price of a Kawi one? TIA, EJ

Ironic.... The fan in mine stopped a few days ago. Turned out the fuse was bad. It looked fine, but there was a tiny break in the element. Definitely mechanical vs. electrical damage. I just replaced it and quit worrying... Steve Anderson

hello The cooling fan behind the radiator is not working. I run the bike halfway toward H on the temp guage and the radiator begins smoking. But the cooling fan does not go on. it remains off. Anyone have any ideas?

maybe it's "smoking" or steaming because your cap leaks, something was spilled on the radiator, or the radiator cap is loose. My fan goes on only when the needle is 3/4 to the red zone. There's a wire plugged into a sensor, on the bottom rear edge of the radiator. Unplug it and touch it on the shiny part of the cylinder. The bike can be running or not. The radiator is smoking with the cap on and the needle not even to H yet? My fan doesn't switch on until the needle is just touching the the red square. -Bryan A12 Tucson

I believe the temperature sensor in the head has very loose tolerances. I've seen a big spread. -Bryan

It is under the right tank shroud. It is a 10 amp fuse in a white inline fuse holder tied to the overflow tank support. Jim

I have spotted (not striped) a lot of these at the Walmart.

Couldn't resist the first part, sorry. My A16 fan comes ON when the needle is at a hair or two past center of the scale. Billy in Dripping Springs, TX
