1)Don't take your helmet off. 2)Try and dispose of any illegal substances quickly before the cop gets too close--throw in bushes or swallow 3)Act like you are a foreigner and adopt an accent 4)Point to your ears like you have ear plugs in 5)Talk very loudly; Praise George Bush 6)Don't make any sudden moves 7)When the cop is gone go back and retrieve your stash 8)Drive slower and safer esp. when you are carrying Jeffrey

I used to ride dirt bikes at a place in the DFW area that you could take the short cut back to the car/trailer by going on the railroad bridge. You'd best know when the train schedule was if you did. Criswell

Some of the best swimming holes in Rural New Jersey were at the Railroad trestles. The trestles and train track right aways were wide enough to have single tracks running the whole length of the train track system. We used to climb the trestles and jump into the rivers. Local police didn't usually bother trying to see what we were up to, although occassionally trains loaded with who knows what used to pass through without stopping on the way to Ft. Dix, and those trains had MPs riding shotgun. We used to ride our old enduros 50-60 mph, and yeah, you needed to know the train schedule before passing through any tunnels. Because of lawyers all railroads have to restrict access to the tracks. I work for a railroad and I hear of at least one accident involving a motorcycle or 4wheeler playing on the tracks almost every month. It is not fun looking on the right of way for body parts.. Bridges are the worst. If you get stuck on a bridge when a train shows up..... All railroads are moving more trains than ever, you can not predict train traffic anymore. Rodney Copeland wrote: Yup! washboards and carbs

Post by troyzellers » Tue Jun 21, 2005 10:38 am

No, this is not NKLR. I'm not talking about abs and girly beer.... I managed to take Porky (A19) out for a decent dualsport ride on Sunday. I have to admit, I'm starting to like this bike more and more. I was less than thrilled with it before, but after taking it on a 300 mile r/t journey on interstate, canyon roads, fire roads, jeep trails, rain and sleet - it definately takes its beatings like a good soldier. I hammered it over streams, rocky roads and throughly bottomed out the stock suspension many times over rain berms and smacked the stock bash plate a few good times too. If this kinda fun keeps up, I'm sure I'll go blind ;) Q: Does the stock carb suffer from the same rough stuff induced sputter that the BST fitted KTM's have? There are a lot of washboard dirtroads here in Colorado and the KLR seemd to hesitate / stutter when moving at a good clip. I haven't ridden a KTM (625SXC with BST carb for instance) to compare. I have read that the BST were mainly street carbs and tended to sputter in the rough. FWIW, I'm running the DJ140 MJ with stock filter and the "L" airbox mod, t- mod, stock exhaust. Comments: Before this ride, I thought the KLR had a couch for a seat. At 300 miles, my arse didn't approve. Also, the stock pegs are gonna be burned. The stock ABS..he he...front brakes actually helped in the loose stuff. I'm at 2200 miles on the ODO and the stock rear is spent. The stock mirror/posts suck and will be replaced. All-in-all the KLR took it better than I had anticipated. I still lust after a twin engined, fuel injected, KTM-like 650cc adventure bike, but I think the KLR might be a keeper.
