Without re-jetting???? May just a tiny bit, from the loss of the boat anchor on the right side (IMO).....the Laser Pro-duro seems to be about the bast, fairly pricey, tho..... All the others seem to fall apart, sooner or later, and moct require re-packing, sooner or later. No free lunch on the KLR.....TANSTAAFL......... Even if you re-jet, you'll gain maybe 3hp acutal (of course, that's 12hp seat of pants, right, Stu?), after you spend $500 +++ All the best, Mike> Hey gang, can anyone with the correct knowledge and expertise adivse > me on which after market pipes boost performance without requiring > rejetting. I just installed an FMF pipe with a big Gun header pipe, which I got from
Arrowhead. And at this time I have not do any re-jetting, but plan to too.
Any way I love it, if I gain HP or not I do not know, but it really freed up
the motor. I have done a few 200+ mile rides with it and on the highway I do
not have the feeling I need to down shift at to pass, the motor revs better.
And I'm not thorn forward when I lift off the gas, I'm also went form any
average of 43 mph to 47 mph. Off road the bike is easer to ride because the
power come quicker and faster. This is all riders feel with no numbers to
back it up, but I would recommend it to anyone. Plus it sounds cool!!!

Peak HP increase? A myth. 1 or 2 hp max. I still have my $50 bill for the first legit 40.00 HP dyno chart from a KLR with only carb and pipe mods... Challenge has stood for years now... Driveability can definitely be improved, and re-jetting is nothing to be afraid of. The KLR, like every motor vehicle, is a victim of the EPA. From the factory, it is leaned out to the moon to pass stringent emissions standards. The old style Supertrapp seems to be pretty durable, the IDS series and the Cobra fall apart, and the Big Gun is way too loud. I have a Laser quiet on one bike and Laser Race on the other, they're solid and durable. Take a bit of work to make fit correctly, but once they're on, they are rock solid and don't require re-packing. The Laser Off-Road pipe isn't obnoxious, either. Throaty and resonant, but not too ridiculous. The FMF is too new to rate, I reckon. I've yet to hear anything negative about it, FMF makes good stuff as far as I know. And Mike (ya smart Alec), if noise was power, my Big Gun equipped KLR would pull 8's in the 1/4 mile.> -----Original Message----- > --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "paulandrewmarx" > wrote: > > Hey gang, can anyone with the correct knowledge and expertise adivse > > me on which after market pipes boost performance without requiring > > rejetting. Just how much power does a stock KLR make any way. I really enjoy this bike but wouldn't mind a little more roll on power. Actually, I could make my KLR faster and not spend a dime. All I have to do is lose the extra 60 lbs of baggage I carry. If I lost the extra weight, then I wouldn't have to make any modifications, and I could continue to enjoy the 55+ gas mileage.

Dyno'd results seem to be 34 to 36 hp, actual RWHP. We've been
threatening to have a dyno day here in SoCal, may still happen.
All the best,

34 to 36 horsepower at the rear wheel, depending upon your pipe, jetting, chain, etc. according to one dynameter report that I read. All the changes in pipe and jetting that you might make will get you, at most, a 2hp gain, and cost you much more than that in $$$ and mpg.> Just how much power does a stock KLR make any way.
You and me both. On long uphill grades in full mule mode while pushing luggage and a windshield, my KLR slows down to about 60mph. BMW claims 50hp for the F650 so it is definitely possible to get more HP out of a 650 thumper, but the KLR's head wheezes like a cigarette smoker running a marathon (just no breathing capacity there at all), and the KLR's bore is marginal for a single spark plug (flame propagation issues start happening at bigger bores, thus why the DR650 and F650 have two spark plugs).> I really enjoy this bike but wouldn't mind a little more roll on power.
HEHEHEH! Don't forget the OTHER extra weight that I, and probably you, could also stand to lose that would make the KLR faster> Actually, I could make my KLR faster and not spend a dime.
