I don't understand why nobody has yet mentioned the very expensive Schaefer oils. All the Norton, Vincent and Ducati guys around here swear by them. They describe them as "cushiony", so they must know what they are talking about.

Great verbage. Love of God. Beaten to death. Shiavo. In oils, I like walmart 10-40, the oil of the common man/woman and their very common vehicles etc. Living a ways a far from a walmart, I basically stopped changing oil. I add a lot and it seems to be fine. Don't see how I deplete the additives as I add so often. Changing at the 10-12K range. Threw a match into the last drain and it didn't ignite, so dilution doesn't seem to be a major problem. Will I get the full engine life possible? Dunno. I am saving a ton on oil cost. Crank bearings can't be a biggie, i.e. 2 strokes. Cam bearings maybe. Removing them at 20K they looked good to go. Low level can be gotten away with, at 2K, I was stunned to find I was down aprox 11/2-3/4 qrt., figured I scorched the sucker. 26K later seems ok. Anyone lost a klr engine to no oil? Trash'em and crash'em-they take a lickin' and keep on.... -----Original Message----- From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com]On Behalf Of kryptodale Sent: Monday, May 23, 2005 4:41 PM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_KLR650] oil posts for the love of God..! klr650 diet

Post by Harry Myhre » Mon May 23, 2005 10:35 pm

Don't fill the gas tank up all the way. That should save you some weight. However as a newbie to my KLR I will say this. I thought the weight of the six+ gallon gas tank would be noticeable. I don't notice the weight at all. In fact it's one of the things I like MOST about the KLR650. There's a piece of the baja highway 1 where you go for like 280 miles between gas stations. KLr650 was made for those kind of roads! One of these days! Harry Myhre Stevenson Ranch, CA A19

Good point because oil posts could probably qualify as "NKLR"...

I asked a perfectly legit question this morning (Msg # 136944) and didn't get a single response. What does that tell you? Matt
