That is a pretty good one. Tho, even at that level of junk, I don't think the oil flow was being reduced in a relevant way. I am not arguing to not clean the screen, but it is important to carefully consider risks versus rewards. -- Doug Herr doug@...

Funny you mentioned it. I just pulled the screen today on a bike that I recently bought. The screen looked great (16,500 miles), but the oil pump drive gear nut was loose, indicating that the bike was worked on by some dip$hit. Fortunately, the claw washer was holding it on. I retorqued it, draped a cloth over the exposed internals and then went inside to feed the kids lunch. When I went back out, I was in a hurry to get the bike back together and when I tightened the last nut, I stood up and saw the screen sitting on the luggage rack. DOH! Duh, I had my 18 month old son in my lap at the time. That makes it a real challenge to type and think ;-) It's a 2003 A17 with 5K miles on it. It had never been opened up before. Not even for the supposed 'valve' adjustment by the dealership for the previous owner. I don't expect that I need to re-examine the screen until I replace the waterpump mechanical seal, or anytime I have the right side cover off for whatever reason. -Bjoggi in Oregon A17 - Not yet Ready for Alaska (2 months and counting)

Ahhhh. Bummer. Can't say I have never done that. LOL. More than once I'm afraid. I had rebuilt the entire front end on my 1100 Katana back in '94 and did final assembly at 3am for an all day ride the day after (5 hours later), and then I found several 'left over' bolts. Had to go back and 'find' where they came from ;-) That was back in the days when I could go without sleep. Them are gone now. -Bruce in Oregon A17 - Behind schedule for Alaska Tengai Mark Van Horn wrote: At 12:44 AM +0000 4/8/05, bjoggi308 wrote:

rad guard specifications

Post by Jim » Fri Apr 08, 2005 12:29 am

I applaud your energy and like your thinking but here is a suggestion, design a better one for the same or less $$, now that is the American spirit. Take a look at the design of the military KLR crash bars and make your own unique design. Who knows you may even have people copying your crash bars someday. I'll volunteer to be a beta tester. --Jim A-15 back on the road and never runn'n better

Looks like it was doing it's job pretty well. --Jim A-15 no longer smelling of gasoline.
