bar snake

Post by Enlow, Kyle S » Tue Oct 17, 2000 8:08 am

I installed the bar snake on my KLR last night. I was hoping to ride this morning a give a report. However, it was raining to much. I am going to go for a 200 mile ride tomorrow so I should be able to give a good report on Thursday. The installation wasn't to bad. You will need new grips of course. First remove old grips. This was a pain in the neck on my bike. Whoever installed the grips must have use glue. I had to cut them off then shave the rest of the rubber off with a knife and sandpaper. Next loosen the turn signal/light assembly on the left side of the bars. If you don't the snake won't move past it because there is a little nipple that goes inside the bars to position this assembly. Remove throttle feed wire that is provided with the snake through the bars. Connect the wire to the snake. Pull the wire through the bars. The snake will move through the bars pretty easy if you spray the snake with some silicone lube. That is about all there is to it. Obviously I left the bars on the bike. I don't see any reason to remove the bars. I will let you know if the bar snake reduces vibration on the mirrors. Kyle

After riding 300 miles through beautiful southern Indiana I have determined that the Bar Snake is not worth the money. I didn't see any reduction in the vibration of the bars or mirrors. Spend your money on something else, maybe Honda mirrors. Kyle

Anybody use this gadget on the KLR handlebars? Does it reduce vibration enough to justify the $30 price? Jim

Go with the bar-end weights made by Suzuki (on the current DR650). Unbelievable difference at freeway speeds. Vernon -----Original Message----- From: plexifairing2000@... Tom, I have no idea. Never needed lever protectors at freeway speeds. Use the bar-end weights that Suzuki provides on their current dual sports. I guarantee that nothing compares if you truly do want to reduce vibration.
