klr for sale in san jose, ca - sketchy
Since I'm starving student, but absolutely dying to get a KLR (and
every time one comes up for sale around here, it's gone within the
hour). So, I'm tempted... But this seems so sketchy, and I'm no
mechanic. Thoughts? I'll probably give it a miss -- unless anyone in
the area wants to earn a case of beer helping me check it out before
buying... =)

"Blue. No papers. Runs great but not currently running (needs gas, oil
change and front tire tube). Acerbis brush guard, brand new street
tires. Killer dual-sport touring bike. Has under 6K mileage. Do not ask
for pics. Available to see during the week days at from 11:30-12:30
a.m. No other times available to show. This is a killer deal for this
bike. Run through the hoops and it's yours. First person to bring DMV
transfer of ownership and $1600 only gets the bike.
Price is absolutely firm."

The "no papers" part would worry me, but he is only willing to sell if you get the DMV approval first, so I guess he is confident that it will not come up as stolen. The other worry would be why it is listed as not running but then the implication that it just needs gas and oil for the engine. You don't need to change oil to get a bike to start. Why not put a gallon of gas in the thing to then call it "running"? I would guess there is something more that is wrong with it. I would not consider buying it unless I could hear it run. At least not for that price. It may be a good price for that mileage if you knew the full history, but that does not sound like the case here. -- Doug Herr doug@...> Since I'm starving student, but absolutely dying to get a KLR (and > every time one comes up for sale around here, it's gone within the > hour). I recommend going to see it. If it's not bent and it's all there you
could probably get your money back parting it out but your labor may
be free. I think that would be the worst case senario. The possible
up side is a KLR owning starving student, man I wish I had mine when I
was one.

if the seller is the owner of record and there are no lienholders, it might not
be too bad a deal. Dunno what it would take to title in Cali. if the owner of
record cannot be found. Here (MN) it would require the seller's affidavit
describing how he came into possession, an inspection by the Dept. of Public
Safety, and posting a bond which indemnifies the state against against a
claim by a true ownwr.
Besides, the guy seems to want to limit your opportunity to ascertain the
bike's condition. Too many red flags at that price.

I have a must sell situation....
Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
47 year old with a 2003 KLR650A17;
12000 miles
meticulously maintained - by ME - nobody touches MY babies.
Maintenance annotated in manual.
CLEAN!!
Stock - except for the taller windscreen. Stock screen goes with.
New battery, 1 month old, always on a tender.
Always garaged!!
No trail riding, fire roads only. My first "dirt" bike and I'm a
wuss...
NEVER crashed. NO water crossings, again, I'm a wuss.
Average retail for this bike/this year is $3500...
Make me a REASONABLE offer and we can talk.
