need engine or just cylinder head

Post by mototrout » Mon Nov 08, 2004 7:37 pm

Hi KLR folks, I am looking for an engine or just the complete cylinder head assembly. My bike is a 1989 KLR 650. I ran low on oil and now the exhaust cam is shot as well as the cam caps. Everything else is fine, better than fine really as I have after market items on the bike and maintain it well, except for riding low on oil. If anyone out there has an engine or top end please let me know. Thank you, Ted

There is a shop that will fix the cam caps, search the archives or hopefully someone will provide more info. I'll be a lot cheaper to get a new cam, and have the head fixed than try to get a new or used one. Darren Clark mototrout wrote:

I just had a head with damaged cam journals repaired by Engine Dynamics [www.enginedynamics.com] in Petaluma, Ca. They build up the surface and then remachine it. Mine cost $95.00 for the damaged exhaust side and $20.00 more to hone and polish the intake side. If the damage is too severe nothing can be done but they had no problem with the one I sent them which was pretty nasty looking. I've only talked to them on the phone but my impression of them is highly favorable. Kurt Grife Darren Clark 2004 KLR-650 A-18 (Ummmm.
