What tires do you all recommend. I like the price of the Kendas and have also heard good things about the Avon gripsters. With so many to choose from, its hard to make a decision. Generally, I ride about 80% on and 20% off. Where do I get em? I know of tiresunlimited.com, are there any other good, cheap suppliers? Also, what tubes tend to be most durable? Thanks, Mike

I've got about 2000 miles so far on my Kendas. I'm pretty happy with them, and they show a small amount of wear. I did notice that they where VERY hard to seat and when you look at them while riding that they look like the woble. I's buy them again, and I'd buy from tiresunlimited again also, HtH, Denis A14

just got my third gripster rear. and expecting my 2nd front from cyclegear (very slow ups ground). 2nd rear was slahed by anti- conservatives. love the gripster esp. compared to dunlop 604 tread and even pattern. the gripster allows me to loft the front wheel where wide tread d604's slide in Florida sands abd grasses. even up N. in Ga.& SC. I adventure mo far offroad w/ gripsters at 33psi-18psi.The gripster allows me to scrape boot leather on road where the d604 would slide. My secnd set of wheels I used;Kenda 270's, wich are cheap and work pretty dang good off road at ~18psi but have left skid marks in my pants and on the road at street ~32psi. and lower. I will try different offroad tires nextime... Fwiw my 3rd rear gripster shows the very same molding blemishes at the same point on the tire. Varying prominence but still very visible gotta love constistency over 3years.

I'm pretty happy with the K761s so far. I even managed to bury my bike in seat-deep mud last weekend and tractor it out -- albeit at 8,000RPM in 1st gear and with the tires already deflated to soemwhere around 15PSI. They are, I have to conclude, better dirt tires than the Distanzias I used to have, which does not make them good dirt tires but it's something. They are not as good as the Distanzias on pavement, especially wet pavement, where the Distanzias are just amazingly good. But they seem like a really nice compromise. Of course, so are the Gripsters. Buy what's cheaper, perhaps? Thor

doohicky replacement on hi milage klr

Post by hvyfuel2004 » Tue Oct 26, 2004 9:36 am

Mornin guys just thought i'd pass on to you all that I had my doohicky replaced on my 38,000 km klr a couple days ago. I bought the kit from Eagle and had it shipped up to my hometown of Bonnyville Alberta Canada. Took the bike down to my trusted mechanic at the local Yamaha shop, and had it done up. He showed me the OEM doohicky and it was still intact. The one thing he did find was that the part was advanced to its maximum travel although the balancer chain was not stretched or worn what so ever. Considering the milage I had fears of him finding pieces of metal all over the place but no. Just out of laziness I also had him put on my new hvy duty x-ring chain and new sprockets as well. I work long hours in the oilfield and I find it really nice to just fork over a few bucks to have these things done. The whole thing took him about 3 hours at a cost of 280.00 Canadian. Maintaining this bike and my ZX-1100 sure keeps my wallet busy tho. Regards.....Doug.
