I want to upgrade to a LOUD dual high/low tone horn set and
have found fiamm makes a mini disc horn set with only 3A
current draw per horn (6A total draw). They claim MOST
applications do not require adding a relay, but the beloved KLR
often doesn't fit the "most applications" profile. Would this
installation require use of a relay in wiring to my A12?

 Thanks!

short intro
Hey Jack,

Good to hear from someone from Alaska. I often think of how great it would have been had I owned my A-12 when I lived and traveled up there (Hydaburg, Nome, Fairbanks.

Just a quick tip from a newbee and not too gifted mechanic. You might want to begin saving some of the more technical posts for future reference. I use the "move" button on Yahoo e-mail to store these goodies and later put them in various folders that relate to different aspects of owning and riding a KLR. So far, other posters have played a key role in all my accessory and clothing purchases, and, of course, maintenence and troubleshooting.

 Howdy, All,
Just signed up to the list last week. Been lusting after a KLR650
for a couple of years, but had to trim the stable back a bit first to
make room. Sold my '82 Honda CX500 Custom early in the summer
so now I can start some serious looking.
While I've been looking at the KLR for a few years, this summer
was the first time I got to ride one, when a friend in Fairbanks and I
swapped bikes for a day; my Concours for his KLR, and went for a
day ride. Then once more later in the summer when I again swapped
bikes with a rider from Saskatchewan - my Wing for his KLR as we
 returned from Valdez.
The KLR is just what I thought it would be, and I'm even more
anxious to get one and start preparing it for some serious riding.
Since I live only about 750 miles from Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay,
and it's such a pretty ride, I'd like to make that trip every month
during the summer. The KLR should be just the bike for the ride.
It's been interesting, reading the e-mail chatter back and forth,
and learning some more about the idiosyncrasies of these bikes.
It will help me be more prepared for getting the bike set up for
the trips I want to take on it, once I find the one I'm looking for.
If they just hadn't painted them that goshawful OD green...
