I'm considering the Harbor Freight MC/ATV lift. Seems like a good deal at $70. Anybody have experience with this to report before I plop my money down? -- Frank Beatrous Pittsburgh

Frank, It's a simple Chineese knock-off of other more exspensive (better?) brands. I have a Craftsman lift which I like lots. Works great on the KLR, even with a bash plate installed. Shop around a bit more if you got time and get a name brand unit if you can. Might get something on sale too if you keep an eye in the newspaper sale flyers. If you're bent on the Harbor Freight unit, I think it would work fine for ya. Good luck. Tim --- frank@... wrote:

Costco has also dropped the price of the lift. It's down to about $60, comes with a roll around stool (parts tray on the bottom), and 4 tie-down straps. Mine also has a foot pedal for lowering, a little easier than the handle srewed valve. all the best, Mike Eagle Mfg & Eng

Since you are looking at doing mail order (I'm guessing) you might want to look at a very similar lift for $49.99. See Http://www.homier.com and search for item 07074 . And in answer to your question, I know several folks who have the Harbor Freight lift and are satisfied with it. Greg Roberts Wadley, AL --- Original Message ----- From:

Which is the more expensive, better name brand? I would guess that the Chinese lift sold by Harbor Freight is no better or worse than the Chinese- made Craftsman, or the one from Checker, or the one from Wally World for that matter. The Craftsman brand used to mean something, and Sears still sells some good tools, but they have also been selling Chinese-made crap for years, and getting good money for it.

The Craftsman brand still does mean something- you can buy hand tools, break them, and have them replace no questions asked. You pay for the warranty, not necessarily the quality. The problem I've had with Craftsman, is they use a very "springy" metal for their sockets and wrenches. They're OK on new-ish non-frozen bolts, but anything really stubborn they'll deform, slip, and strip the nuts. A nice, cheap, brittle Chinese POS socket will either turn the nut, or shatter and leave the nut intact. BUT the Chinese cheapo ratchets are very unreliable from what I've heard. I stick to Husky or Craftsman for stuff like that. Devon

Except for the times that the Chinese open end or socket rounds the nut because the opening is a bit past the large size of tolerance. Or when the Chinese Allen wrench destroys the bolt cause it's too small. Bogdan
