winter riding gear
Being it's in the low 50's in the mornings, the ride to work could
be made much more pleasant with the proper gear. I'm thinking
about the Joe Rocket Revolution Jacket and Ballistic 4.0 pants.
http://www.newenough.com/package_deal_revolution_ballistic_page.htm
A fair deal, I thought, at $234.00 for the set. Do any of you know
if the Ballistic pants can be used as overpants? The jeans and
casual leather jacket just aren't cutting it.
I know this topic has been hashed and re-hashed, probably even
recently, but even a re-hash of preferred riding gear would make
more interesting reading than some of the other topics of late IMVHO.
What about gloves? I thought I remembered someone on the list
had tried the AKA gloves. Being a cheap ba$tard, $35.00 sounds
great.

I tried on a pair of the Joe Rocket Radiant gloves and they seemed
like they would also be nice & toasty, but are they worth $63.00?

Thanks for any and all suggestions. Like many of you diehards
on the list, I intend on riding as far into the winter as I can. I must
admit, I am a little intimidated with the thought of commuting 25
miles, in the snow, on my bike, in freezing temps to get to work.
I'll ride until the day I have to call my wife and have her bring the
moto-tote with her to rescue me from a snowbank

winter riding gear
HI Gary,
I use a Joe Rocket 3.0 Ballistic jacket with a fleece jacket as a
liner and Joe Rocket Revolution pants in the winter. The Revolution
pants have a nylon, quilted liner that will keep you pretty warm. I
haven't found a good way to keep my feet warm yet.
I find it coincidental that you're already riding one of the bikes
I've rode for years...a '92 Serow and you're wanting a bike I've
been riding since Nov. '03...a shiny, red KLR650. The Serow's been
a great little bike, but the KLR is so much fun that I've only
ridden the Serow once since I got the KLR. Guess I need to find the
Serow a new home.
It doesn't snow much here, but it does get pretty cold with some
really nasty winds now and then. I don't usually ride if the
weather's much below 40^F, but due to our contantly changing winter
weather, I do get to ride year round.

They are overpants. They have zips from the ankle up to the hip on the outside of both legs. Work great, particularly for commuting. They are quite comfortable down into the upper 30's over jeans, not so comfortable when temps hit the upper 70's with any high humidity though. They are pretty well waterproof and as a result , don't breathe particularly well. The tall sizing on the Ballistic 4.0 pants is on the money too for anyone who needs it. Fit's my 37" inseam just fine. Newenough is a great vendor to deal with, I buy whatever I can from them, their selection isn't very broad as the limiting factor.> Being it's in the low 50's in the mornings, the ride to work could > be made much more pleasant with the proper gear. Until things get really chilly, an inexpensive pair of nylon
overpants or warm-ups (think Target or Wal-Mart), or even rain pants
really helps cut the wind and add some warmth to your rides. I've
used the same pair of nylon rain pants from REI for many years. They
don't stop rain anymore, but they still stop the wind, and they pack
real small for the trip home. Basically, they live in bottom of my
backpack. Even here in SoCal we get chilly winter mornings (I'm on
the road at 0600), and when the rain pants fail, I wear my TourMaster
Cortechs or Darien Lights. Both are good as overpants. The JRs will
probably be, too, but a friend had some JR pants and fit was a major
issue so they stay in his closet.

nklr, ok we are all beautiful people
Is that PC enough?
Except people of any color that would purposefully destroy the wrong
bike belonging to a person that the moron didn't even know or had
anything against.
The whole incident is shocking.
Reminds me of the people in cars/suvs on the fwy that don't approve
of bikers legally splitting lanes because their butts are stuck in
traffic. They then try and make harder/more dangerous for bikers to
pass.
There needs to be a new bumper sticker in addition to the lawyer one
everyone sees.
FU(K WITH MY BIKE AND YOU ARE DEAD!
