Priceless fun here.. Co-worker has this nice shiney HD. Well since there is a couple of ralley's in town this weekend, he rode it to work today. Well another fellow co-worker and I happen to walk by his bike and just had to have some fun. Placed a nice little puddle of oil smack dab under the motor.. Someone here reported that he was laying on the ground about in tears looking under his bike. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Should have propped an AMF volleyball under the bike while you were at it ;-).

While the fake dog poop or fake vomit is for the 14 yr. old boy, we can still have fun with the fake oil puddles. Conall

Every time the Javits center hosts the annual Motorcycle Show, I briefly think about doing the oil pool trick on one of the bikes at the H-D display. I need to figure out a way to have a tube running down my pant leg, and a way to turn the oil on and off. That way I can sit on each of the bikes and put a little oil on the floor beneath each one. While I'm at it, I should hide pennies on top of the Ducati's cylinder heads, and anywhere else I could put them without causing real damage. Alarming rattling noises every time you lift the bike off the sidestand..... A lady was walking home through my neighborhood in Brooklyn last night just as I was leaving to pick up my wife. As I was loading my KLR, she exclaimed "that's a beautiful bike" (it was very dark out). "my husband wants a bike but I'm scared of him getting one".... "Can I..... my husband would be so mad at me... can I... sit on your bike?" As I was holding the KLR upright (she was way to short to reach the ground) she breathed in my direction and I realized she was most likely walking home from a coctail party. She started talking about the American Chopper TV show, and started caressing the KLR's grievously scarred and dented gas tank. Another moment holding the handlebars, and she went on her way. My KLR looks damn good, if you're drunk and its nighttime. Devon

Yeah Devon.......I think she wanted to go for a "ride". Jim, I think it's that spiky Pookie on your fender. They might like something a little less traumatizing. My A17's still too "nice" looking, so I'm not getting any play with it either. Maybe in a few years.....or just let Zack or Tumu have it for a weekend, and it'll have that sexy battle-worn look. If being crushed like an empty beer can is "sexy" and "battle worn" then sure, loan Tumu your bike for a weekend of woods and rocks. Devon

knock

I also have this problem with my 97' KLR650. 26,000 miles on it. I believe it is predetonation. Valves are adjusted fine within spec. Only occurs in the 2k-3k rpm range, with the engine under load. Switching to a higher octane seems to solve it. Knocking is much more noticable on the crappy Peruvian, and Bolivian 84 octane gasoline. Just got back from a 5 month motorcycle trip on the motorcycle to Chile, South America, from NYC. Am planning on taking the motorcycle on more international trips, so I would love to solve the problem, as high octane gas is often not available throughout the world. Any recommendations on solving this?? --Terry p.s. Only problems with the KLR on the 14,000 mile trip down were the knocking engine on certain gas, and the speedo broke twice (once the speedo gear, and once the cable).
