good mechanic in nyc

Post by kensmoothhh » Mon Jun 28, 2004 11:04 am

I bought a 2002(leftover) klr-650 new from camrod in NYC. I am coming up on my 500 mile service check but i'm not 100% convinced about the service departments competence. anybody got a line on a good MOTORCYCLE mechanic in NYC area. i am willing to travel about a half hour in any direction. thanks -Ken

good mechanic in nyc

I do all my own work, partly inspired to do so by Camrod's service department. The only shop I found that I trust to work on my bike on the extremely rare occasions when I can't do it, is Action Yamaha in Metuchen, NJ. They aren't a Kawasaki dealer, but if you insist that they do the valve check I think there's a Yamaha bike that uses the same size valve shims (so they might have them on hand). More like 45min. 732 494 5555 open Tuesday to Saturday. Open until 8:00pm on Thursday. Do NOT have "NY Slick" in Williamsburg work on your bike. Devon KENNDIABLO@... wrote:

..........ditto........with help, of course.

.......and do NOT let Triboro in Greenpoint murder it either. Study up and take the plunge, and get together with other KLR owners who have been there to help. Steve The Mule A17

doohickynoia

Hi Mike, I have put on about 12 Tech Days down here in SoCal. Over the course of those 12 tech sessions we have opened up 60 left side cases. Of those we opened up, we have found 12 broken doohickeys. My '99 with less than 3,000 miles was the first one opened on the first Tech Day...........with a broken doohickey. We opened four that day, two others were broken and the fourth had a broken spring. There were 8 KLR's at that session. Several Tech days ago, we opened a brand new 2004 with less than 500 miles on it and guess what? A broken doohickey. The dealerships have a vested interest in NOT telling you about a potential problem. Kawasaki is pulling the ostrich game, with it's corporate head in the sand (notice how polite I'm being) and not acknowledging the problem. I have personally witnessed a 20% failure rate. Thankfully there ARE two machinists that recognized the problem and have manufactured a part that will outlast several KLR's. It's not a problem if you recognize the issue and use either of the solutions provided. Fred has the stuff (Eagle) and Sagebrush (Jake); both make good parts. I am, however, partial to the Eagle stuff myself. Doohickynoia, perhaps. Keep looking over your shoulder, they ARE coming after you. Buddy from the enlightened KLR of Harry Seifert bseifert71@...
