strange water temp.

Post by relemcke » Wed Jun 23, 2004 10:36 am

I bought a 98 KLR 650 last September and rode it a few times and noticed the water temp. would be at six o'clock even when the air temp was around 40 deg.F.. This year I have rode about a 1000 miles and the guage from a cold start would go to 3/8 scale then dip back to about 1/4 and stay there drivng mosltly country roads. At a stop light it creeps up to 3/8, but when I am riding goes back to 1/4. The other day I went for a slow ride in the woods and got the guage to 5/8 and the fan came on, so to me it seems the guage is accurate. So I spent the $32 and changed the thermostat and still have the same situation. I have backed out the air mix screw 1 turn because of backfire but it should not effect the temp at over 1/4 throttle . Any ideas?? I live outside Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and might be willing to host a doohickey festival.

At low speeds there's not enough air flow and your fan will come on. While putt'n along side a creek in the woods once, my fan was cycling regularly until I made it back to a road and got out of 1st gear. Sean Smith Louisiana '04 R1150RT (For Sale) '03 KLR650
