Dual-Star.com claims to sell the genuine military gas tank for the
KLR, but recent pics of the USMC KLR shows that the fuel tank has
the coolant tank attached to the front left shroud area.
The "military tank" sold by Dual-Star and IMS does not have the
coolant tank attached.. What's the real deal?

military klr question
here's a wacko theory ...
maybe the military ordered a bunch of tanks but when they arrived
they found they should redesign the tank to have the coolant
attachment like we see in the pictures.
as a result there was a glut of 'military tanks' which were
now useless to the military and were thus sold on to consumers.
now the public will have to wait for some other redesign
so we can get the now real military tanks.
wacko huh ?

You remove the entire muffler, and remove the clamp that fastens the midpipe to the muffler. There is a rivet under the clamp that pins the muffler to the core. Once you do that, you either hammer the core out of the muffler body (50% chance you destroy it), or remove the discs, and punch a small hole in the perforated core to fit the dent puller into (10% chance you destroy it). If you coated the entire core with anti-seize when it was new, it's much easier. If you have any dents in the body between the discs and the end cap, it's MUCH harder.
