klr shopping
Hello to all,
I am posting this for a friend that is just starting to shop for a KLR. He is located in San Diego.
.... "Hi all,
I'm in the market for a recent previously owned Kawasaki KLR650 dual-purpose.
I went down to SD House of Motorcycles, who are advertising one. It is a
2001 model, with some paintwork damage (looks like sun-fading) and which
had clearly been down at least once (what did I expect, it's a dp
bike?).
But they were asking $4,600 for it - for a complete stocker! The list
price for a new bike is $4,999, and Kelley Blue Book reckons it's worth
only $4,225 in pristine condition.
If anyone knows of an alternate source, I'd be very interested, and
grateful.
Simon".............................
I agreed with him that I thought that was a bit high!
Thanks for any help,
Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,
Callaway Motorsport in Riverside has a used 2002 with 1100 miles on
it, they were offering it for $3800 I think.
Guy bought it thinking he would do more dirt, changed his mind and
traded it back in for a streetbike.
Thanks
Stu Mumford

The 2003 models are coming out in July (next month). $4600 seems way
too high for a used droped KLR especially in San Diego. I have seen
other used bikes as much a $1000 lower then here in SF Bay ARea North
California. My local dealer still has two 2002 models for sale. I
think out the door price is $5750.00. He's the cheapest and best Kawi
dealer around.

Kathleen, tell him to check cycletrader.com. I found mine on there for a great price. I had to drive 150 miles to pick it up, but the deal was well worth it. You might get lucky and find one local. After 2 months in & out of hospital, I guess I will sell my 2000 KLR? NEW condition with around 3300 miles and kept in my home garage. Extra's include: SuperTrapp ISDN Quiet Series Exhaust/K&N ReJetting/Russell Daylong Touring Leather Saddle(just dyed Black) / Tims Highway pegs / Tims Pannier Racks/ Clearview 13" Taller & wider Fairing . May be more, can't remember? Dealer serviced. Bike never scratched or abused. Used mostly on road except for a few fire roads around Lake Elsinore area and Ortega Highway. Pictures are at my website at: http://members.cox.net/oldtimer2/Motorcyles.htm (but the seat is now Black). Price $3995.00 FIRM. A big thanks to all who responded to my earlier post regarding my friend looking for a used KLR. He just e-mailed me that he got one.
Stu, Callaway no longer has that KLR for sale.
And I sure would like to be able to tell this new KLR owner to subscribe to the list.

Good for him. Now maybe I won't really sell my beloved KLR! I hope he get this group as well. Learned so much here! Mike> > Kathleen > Lake Elsinore, CA. > KLR A13 > TDM '92 > CB400A '78

How funny! Did he buy it? I hope so, and I hope he calls them and tells them Stu Mumford sent him, they have my KLR in the shop and I am going to owe them $1k. (Oversize piston, new valves, etc. etc. basically a whole new top end). Help! It was in the classifieds at recycler.com today, and is in the current print edition of Cycle Trader! A guy that works for me had the Cycle Trader, and of course I gotta check up on them used KLR prices...> Stu, Callaway no longer has that KLR for sale.

I think a whoole lot of members found this list on their own, and are darn glad they did. Me for instance. Thanks Stuart Mumford> > Kathleen > Lake Elsinore, CA. > KLR A13 > TDM '92 > CB400A '78

I'm planning on buying a new KLR650 in a couple of weeks (when I have
the cash) and the dealer will give me 15% of any accessories I buy at
the same time. I know some of you in the past have suggested some
mods, but I was wondering if there are any that should be done
immediately. I rode one with a supertrapp exhaust on it, but didn't
like it because of the noise. It seemed to have a lot of power though.
Thanks for your help everybody and thanks to those that replied to my
other recent queries.
