a 650 with a 600 motor?
Please help me o knowledgeable KLR people. I posted earlier about my
need for a head and cam for my 93 klr650. I found this auction on
eBay, for a 95 klr650 motor(
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=35595&item=2467476099&sspagename=STRK%3AMEAWN%3AIT
) and set my auto sniper to snatch it for me. In the middle of the
auction he makes a revision saying the motor is an 85 600cc.(I was
away for the weekend) I have every right to back out of the auction (I
did win) but my question to yawl
Is, will it bolt up in my frame without a hassle? And if so will I be
disappointed with this motor being older and 50cc shy of my old one?
and my third question anybody need a klr600 motor? thanks -----MO---

You could avoid this problem by wrapping your exhaust in some exhaust
insulation wrap. It keeps a lot more of the heat in the pipe so that
it does not radiate to the components around it.
I use it on all of my bikes. It makes a difference in the engine temp
by reducing the amount of radiant heat from the header reflecting onto
the motor and also you will never again burn the inside of your pant
leg. It especialy helps if you do a lot of stop and go or slow riding
where you are not getting much air flow over the motor.
You can get the stuff at most automotive supply stores, and it is easy
to install.
You can check it out here:

Actually, the 600 motors wer only 546 or 549 cc's can't remember
which. Doubt that it is a direct bolt in replacement as th 84-86
had different frames than the 87 and up. Nice thing if you could
get it to work is the kick start is already there. I'm 99 percent
sure they do share the same carb and head pipe.
