rode klr to bike week & spark knock
I also rode my KLR to Daytona.
Since I was riding with my cousin from Canada who brought his Suzuki Savage
650 single I decided to ride the KLR to be more compatible with the Savage.
We took a route from Asheville NC that I've used previously.
No interstate roads except to get through Jacksonville.
In fact we rode mostly county roads through South Carolina and
Georgia. There was almost no traffic on these roads. Last trip on the
sport bike I rode 85+ mph on most of these roads and made great time.
With the KLR and even slower Savage we usually rode 65 to 70 mph.
Took two days to go down as we had a late snow storm here in the mountains
and had to delay our start time to 2:00 pm
Was on track for a nice one day return until I ran over something on the
road in Georgia that put a 2 inch gash in my rear tire and tube.
They were having a GNCC race near Thompson Georgia and one of the riders
was kind enough to give me a new HD rear tube and I had a tire shop put a
boot over the gash on the inside of the tire.
This tire was new when I left but it's toast now.
This delayed us enough that it was a two day trip home also.
Bike ran great for the most part.
I did notice that when the engine got hot in slow traffic it would spark
knock (ping) when I lugged the engine.
Next fill I put in high test gas and it cured the spark knock.
I wouldn't think you'd need 93 octane gas in a KLR.
I may try a size bigger main jet.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Doug
