I'd aprreciate some help. I don't know whether to go for a new A18 KLR for $8000 (Australian) or $6500 for a 2001 European model with extra's. Can you put a tacho on the American model & is the extra weight on the Euro noticable?

Yank version comes standard with tach, speedo, temp guage and idiot lights for nuetral, high beam, and turn signal indicator, at least the yank version sold here in 'merica. Never seen or rode the euro version... gooday mate, MarkB

that's too much money for a "A" model. In the states a a18 averages approx $5100USD including taxes. Todays rates puts 8000 AUS dollars equal to about 6186 $USD. I'd go for the "A" model for the aftermarket support , and offer him 6500 australian, for the A18. if he doesn't accept your offer be prepared to walk out the door. A18s in the states come with tacho standard from the factory. Conall

I got about AU$400 off my A18 in Melbourne, they don't discount much as they can sell all they can import. If my dealer couldn't get one from a country dealer I would have had to wait a month or so for the next shipment. On the showroom floor the C model was certainly heavier to move around, once going I don't know. Iwanted the large tank & tacho. Gavin

Well, that adds to my confusion about the A18 in australia, is it the same of different? The australian kawi website states that the A18 in austrailia has upgraded components, brakes, ext, but same engine. So, if the official website stated that, you would figure it was correct. Then we had a fellow from australia say he actually checked them out and they are identical to ours. Now it seems they may have different gauges? Any more info again, expecially from australians would be great! -markus

My Australian A18 has a 23 litre tank, 38mm forks, speedo (in Kph), tacho, temperature gauge, idiot lights for neutral, turn signals and high beam, it was assembled in Thailand just like yours because it is the same as yours! Ebay, or dualstar.com. They may still have some fuel tanks (around $300 or was it $150?). Devon
