bad riding weekend?

I called Fred at Arrowhead Motorsports and he told me that he was out of stock on the "UFO Superbike" front fender that KLR people have used to get a low fender and more cross wind stability. More than that, he said that UFO wasn't sure if or when they would make more. Does any one know of another source for the UFO fender that has stock? Alternatively, does anyone know if a Kawasaki Sherpa front fender will fit on a KLR? Also, since the Sherpa comes in Kaw green, does anyone have any experience trying to paint motorcycle plastics? Any input would be appreciated. Jac

Hey Jac, The Sherpa fender won't fit without major mods to it. I put a UFO fender on my KLR and to my eyes it just didn't look right at all, looked totally out of charactor for the bike to me. What I ended up doing was trimming up my original fender with a saw and it looks good and the flutter is gone. Trimmed on the each side of the fender along the line where the fender flares out and gets fat and bulbous looking and about a half an inch in front of the indentation on the top of the fender, then rounded the corners and edges smooth with some hundred grit sand paper, totally transformed the looks of the fender. Might want to try it to see how it looks, I think you'll be supprised. Dan Bittner Sacramento A16

Just in case you thought you may have had a bad riding weekend.... My buddy and I went riding up at Stonyford in the Mendocino National Forest in N. CA. I chose to leave the KLR at home and took my CR500, while my friend took his KTM 525 EXC. Anyway, on the way up some friends called and said they were already there. When we arrived 2 hours later one of the guys came screaming up and told us to get our stuff on because one of the guys had tried crossing a creek and LOST his bike underwater! We got rolling and checked it out. The guy had tried crossing a creek which is a pretty normal shot. With the weeklong rain and some melting snow it was boiling pretty good at this point. Anyway he tried doing it, stalled halfway through, and then the water just pushed him over. He tried hanging on to the bike but it got to be too much. The bike ended up tumbling downstream where the guys ended up losing it underwater. We walked up and down the creek looking for anything. Nothing. They brought up 3 bikes and went home with 2. At least it cut the loading time down by a third.... The story continues. The guy went back today to look for his bike. He took his scuba gear and a wetsuit just in case. When he got there, the water had lowered enough to where the front wheel was sticking a hair out of the water. The bike had ended up in a 8-foot deep hole and was now embedded halfway in gravel. He got a tow line on it and yanked it out. It was trashed! It's a Husqvarna 610 I think, and the dealer was going to give him 1500 for it. I think it's lawn art now. cw A3

That's not exactly what I said..... As far as I know the White UFO fender has been discontinued from the manufacturer. The Black model is still being made but my distributor is not selling enough and may stop handling it too. I have a bunch on order and when(if) they come in, I will let you know. I did receive one black UFO low fender today and if you still want it Jac, you have first dibs at it. If not, then let me know.
