nklr reciever carrier

Post by Andrus Chesley » Tue Nov 18, 2003 5:08 am

A while back someone mentioned taking a trip and carrying his KLR on a Receiver mounted bike carrier with no problems. I'm interested in finding out more about his set up if anyone remembers him or he's sees this message. IE, shock set up to keep truck lights on the road, etc. Seems like it would be better than a trailer. Andy in Louisiana.

http://www.hilltoprv.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=492 Here are some of the carriers that are avail. If you read, I think there is free shipping and maybe even a small discount if you enter a code at the checkout. Dont think I would bother with a 2 bike rack, it sticks out pretty far, I just run my bike into the truck box and strap it down, but now that Kitty is with us, I will be either riding the bike or buying a trailer, thinking about a cargo trailer big enough for Green Ape and Kitty, then after rolling them out, use the cargo trailer as shelter when camping, but a utility trailer would have so much more usage, but again back on the cargo trail I could use it as winter storage space also. Well happy biking, its cold and raining here, but at least not snowing. Dooden A15 Green Ape (w/ way too not enough miles) Heck at my rate I should hit 50,000 miles sometime around my 100th birthday.

Colorado Vespa in Denver has one for $297.00 (Tilt-a-rack #410CR). It has a 400# capacity. http://www.tiltarack.com/cyclerack.html --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "Andrus Chesley" wrote:

That's really nice, BUT, have you used it with your KLR? I'd be VERY worried about a rack that only uses clamps over the bike's footpegs to hold it on. 'specially with the luck people seem to have with our footpeg mounts. Odd they don't have any other eyes on the frame to put tiedown straps on.

doohickey @ 3700 miles

Did the doohickey, looked fine, not bent or broken. The stock spring (40mm) had about 1/4 inch of travel left in it. Used the Eagle kit from Fred, the 35mm spring was tight, stretching 1/2 inch, lots of tension. Mike (Eagle) gladly replaced it with a 37 0r 38mm, that stretched about 3/8 inch, a good compromise I thought. I got the gaskets off in one piece, but lots of material from them stuck to the cases so I replaced them. The rotor was a bear to remove but I got it, and it was a bear to line up with the key and put back on, got it too.

That be the one we sell, I think its listed for $299, but free shipping and any discounts that might be listed on the webpage, I think 5% is all that is being offered right now, I kinda stay clear of the internet stuff the best I can. If somebody is interested in one, let me know maybe I can help a little, but no promises can I make. Seem to be having internet trouble, site is pretty slow, but so was everything else on the network today there. www.hilltoprv.net if anybody cares. Dooden A15 Green Ape and Kitty
