Anyone have a suggestion for some better hand guards than the stock
ones? Mine are already looking shabby.
Thanks,
Aaron

hand guards...
I really like the ones shown at the link below.

They provide easily as much wind/weather protection as stock and the
aluminum bar is really solid. I'd have a lot more to worry about than
my control levers if those puppies ever failed me.
They are Maier Deluxe Woods Pro with the EXC deflectors.

engine guard takes out motor mount

Pretty good, actually -- Eric did it to both motor mounts on his bike on the same night (in his defense, there was a blizzard... in June...)! I lowsided with the non-engine-guard version of the highway pegs once and did _not_ bend my motor mount -- but the engine-guard version also adds a triangular stiffener to the peg itself, making the weld between peg and U-shaped bar no longer a built-in weak point. I think that this is a mistake, since I'd much rather mess up the highway pegs than the motor mount. On the other hand, that's a subjective thing -- the motor mount certainly does cost less than the highway pegs do, and the bike *is* rideable with not just one but two bent mounts. On the other hand, when Eric bent his mounts, Kawasaki only had *one* spare in the entire USA. The local dealer had to make the other one for us. Me, I keep meaning to notch the stiffener on my engine-guard pegs so they'll bend there and not take out the motor mount if I lowside on pavement or rock. Installed the same ones. Very sturdy, enough room for the levers. Protecs
from trees, branches, saves broken levers, offers wind protection.
Was my best upgrade sofar.

O.k., how did you manage that? Mine have tapped holes in the aluminum
bars and the guards came without holes in them at all and a set of
screws. I drilled through the front of the guards and put the screws
in.
