engine noise while turning off

Post by ernyblue4699 » Wed Oct 08, 2003 8:56 pm

I was just wondering about a noise that sounds like its coming from the front engine area. I sounds like a bird type of short squeak not very loud. It goes away when the engine warms up. I only noticed it a few weeks ago when I was working on the bike. Any ideas?????

Check the headlight bracket. The one that wraps around the lens, There is a phillips screw on the middle top and middle bottom. When one or both get loose the glass lens rubs against the metal bracket making a terrible squeek. Sounds like it's comming from the top left side of the engine. It's enough to give a person nightmares. Generally though, it doesn't matter if the engine's hot or cold. This sound usally happens within a specific RPM range. Matt

Sorry, can't help as to a definite source but, I have a similar noise with my '02 upon shutdown occasionally. I think it's coming from the water pump area. In fact, I have a constant whining from that area after a short hard ride. After I do my "doohickey" maintenance, I plan on popping that cover and checking things out. Good point but then again maybe your wife would be into that sort of thing. You'll never know till you ask. Bogdan
