speed bleeders or vaccuum bleeding?

Post by Chris » Wed Aug 27, 2003 12:11 pm

I've got to do some brake work and I've never been one to be coordinated enough to get better than 33% success rate with manual bleeding. Trying to decide if these gadget speed bleeders actually work or not or just to go with a vaccuum test pump and reservoir setup. Any takes on this?

I've used both. They both work. The Mityvac isn't much more money, and you can use it for a whole bunch of other stuff while the speedbleeders are an accessory, rather than a tool. Also, I think the Mityvac might be faster for a complete fluid change. I know it's easier when starting out with a dry system, because you still need to bleed/prime the master cylinder to get the speedbleeders working. Air gets in around the bleeder valve threads with the mityvac, so after you use it you should bleed the brakes once the old-fashioned way. Dunno about KLR, but on my old Yamaha XJ speed bleeders did magic - and vacuum pump didn't do squat. Just my $0.02. D. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com

You can't beat a mity-vac. One of my favorite shop tools. Kurt Simpson

Speedbleeders ship with a pre-applied thread sealant to prevent this. I wonder what this sealant is? RM

i am selling my 2002 klr 650 it is in excellent shape with 2300 miles and has the following mods. 49 mm forks with adjustable compresion damping adjuster on the top of the forks that works great for dual sport, you can set them soft for the street or firm them up for off road.the stock speedometer still works. progressive spring on the rear shock,i built a new mount for the headlight and fairing from moly tubing so the light turns with the forks witch is great for trail riding at night, if you have ridden a stocker at night you know what i mean. there is a waterproof storage pouch behind the fairing. i made a new gauge mnt. out of alum. and the steering lock still works. the kickstand has a moly pad welded on the bottom so it wont fall over in the mud. stainless brake line on the front. kenda 270 tires with about 800 miles on them. the kickstand safety switch has been modified. big gun exhaust, k and n filter. jet kit, aerobis hand guards, anti vibe mirror mounts, ims pegs, moly radiator guard, tag aluminumn bars filled with silicone with custom aluminum riser blocks, ims shifter extended 1", chase harper bar bag, tank bag and tail bag. ortlieb dry saddlebags. the tank bag and the saddle bags have never been used . i also have some spare front and rear wheels that go with the bike off of a klr600 , . i also have a new front sprocket 1 tooth smaller than stock that goes with the bike a spare ims shifter, a new dunlop d606 rear tire ,valve shim kit. the rear rack has been modified ,i cut off the passenger grab handles and ground the rack smooth so you can't tell they were ever there and now they don't hit you in the butt when you ride offroad. the valves were lashed at 500 miles, the oil has just been changed, the bike now rides and handles great, the bars and mirrors don't buzz the forks are awesome, the front brake works now, the engine is very responsive with more low and midrange power, it runs right with my brothers 2002 ktm 640 and is way more comfortable, i love this bike and i hate to sell it. i will take some pictures tomorrow and can email them if you are interested. also i will not sell the wheels seperate. you can email me at wizbangchassis@... i have lowered the price to $4100.00 and that is a steel thanks .........todd shepherd
