Good Day All - I've just joined the club and am the proud owner of a
1993 KLR 650 - that has been such a solid/reliable unit for years. It
has clocked 10K Miles on the tough streets of Seattle in the hot, rain
and snow - it just doesn't complain - until now!!
I haven't pulled her out of the garage for a year. Placed a new
battery in and she came right to life. Fuel quality/level is fine and
I even replace the Mobil 1/filter. The problem is that it will fire -
but only run for about 20 seconds and then die like someone removed
the spark plug. I am really wanting to go trail riding next weekend
(get away from any/all women!!!!) but can't figure out what's wrong.
On one of the times it did start, I took a reading from the battery
with a volt meter. The charging system was cranking-out 13+ volts and
like I say the batt. is new so????? On attempting the next start
sometimes I smeel raw fuel like it must be an electrical issue.
It's like the coolest machine in the world and I miss riding it. I
really don't want to be forced to take it down to the "local yocal"
Kawasaki dealer, for obvious reasons; 1) They are duche bags, 2) Try
to save $$$$. Help - please................Scott

intermittent operation
Sounds like it may be a fuel feeding problem. If it runs for a
short period and dies, it may have the petcock filter gummed up from
storage and not flowing fast enough. The bike would run until the
the float bowl is empty. I'm just guessing.

updated riding priorities
After a little thought (I said a little)---I have updated and added
to my list of totally demented riding priorities. It will probably be
an ever growing list. And I'm open to your additions !!!
