My buddy is currently in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI) Canada and he just called me to tell me the motorcycle cops there are using the KLR650. Does anyone know of other police forces that use KLR? Robert A-15

I think Boulder or Denver Colorado use them. By the way, I'm pretty sure the Columbia National Police use them as well. At 03:26 PM 7/17/03 +0000, autosportcanada wrote:

Check this out. It says KLR 600, but they are obviously KLR 650's. http://www.smcsheriff.com/specialized_units/specialized_units.htm I am always looking for info. on police dual purpose bikes as I am trying to convince my Chief that our department should have one (or two). My department may let me do some patrols on my own KLR in a brief pilot program later this summer. The Chief and Town Manager seem to be in favor. Just waiting for the town's insurance company to give the O.K. I think the public will really like it. Should be fun... autosportcanada wrote: My buddy is currently in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI) Canada and he just called me to tell me the motorcycle cops there are using the KLR650. San Francisco PD used to until they switched to Suzuki a couple of years ago. I always used to see cops on KLRs at Giants and Niner games at the Stick, back in the day. Rob D. --- Thomas Currin wrote:

29 Palms California has at least one KLR motor officer. I met the guy at a GP race out there in the desert last fall. Seemed like an average KLR rider, OK guy, maybe he lurks on the list? CA Stu

We have a couple of KLR 250s that we use for parks patrol (King Co. SO, Seattle). Just got back from riding one on the old railroad grade along Lake Sammamish. I wish I could use a 650 for patrol. The KZ1000 is a little big for trails, but I do take it on the trails in the parks. Kelley................ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! Saw a TJ cop riding a KLR across the pedestrian footbridge once. Might have been a 250... RM

Several years back the Washoe County Sheriffs (Reno is in Washoe Co.) got a couple of KLRs that they were using for patrolling the popular OHV and 4x4 areas. Couple of years ago they sold the bikes when budget cuts axed the program. But while they had them the officers loved the bikes. They were the first vehicle they had that could catch the teenagers doing illegal things on their dir bikes, quads and 4x4s. While they had the bikes they ran an information booth at the Reno Arenacross where the bikes were on display. Pat G'ville, Nv [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
