Dear Friends,
I live in Brazil and I lost 5 batteries in the last 2 years. I
suspect there is power overcharging but none of the mechanics gave me
the right diagnosis. Therefore I would like to know what do then I
will have to direct the mechanics.
Many thanks

Are the batteries very low on electrolyte when they fail? Boiling out the acid is a common sign of overcharging. If they still have the normal fluid level, maybe it's not overcharging. Get a voltmeter, the cheaper digital ones are good since they are accurate enough for the job but cheap enough not to cry if you fry it. Measure the volts DC across the battery with the engine off and ignition off. Start the engine, and check the voltage at idle. Hold the motor at about 2/3 of the way to redline and check it again. The voltage should be about 12v (maybe a bit lower if the current battery is tired) with ignition off, increase to 12v with the motor idling, and get to 13.8 or 14.5 with the motor revving. If the voltage gets over 14.5 at high revs, then you are overcharging the battery. Overcharging can be a problem with the regulator/rectifier, but more likely is a problem with corrosion in the electrical connectors. Open, clean, and grease all the connectors in the charging system. Another possibility, is a short somewhere in the system that is slowly draining the battery. You wouldn't notice starting problems since the ignition is separate from the charging system. If a battery gets deeply discharged and then recharged very often it wears out prematurely. Does anyone make a battery eliminator for the KLX650? Who's been giving them the initial charge? The dealer or you? If the
dealer is just quickcharging them to get it to you fast, that might
help lead to an early death. Were all the batteries the same type
bought from the same place? If so, try a different place and a
different brand if you can....

Try an electrolytic capacitor, available for about two bucks at an electronic surplus store. Sometimes I can find 12v ones, but have made do with 10v or 15v. Have one on my DR650, and have run them on Brit bikes for years. The ones that you want are about the size of a small can of tomato juice, anodized blue, or with a light blue plastic coating.> > Does anyone make a battery eliminator for the KLX650? >

Some jokers are just out to get a rise out of people. I'll bet the guy
is sitting back and enjoying all of the posts he's caused from his
little games. Food for thought!
