aftermarket seat/givi topcase questions
My wife got used to the comfy seats on the Silverwing, and isn't too
pleased with riding pillion on the KLR. Actually, she's good for an
hour or two, but that's about it.
I've been looking at my options for aftermarket seats, and I was
wondering if anyone knows of a seat that is actually split into two
sections. Part of the issue is that the stock seat is pretty slippery,
and she ends up sliding into me pretty often, which pushes us both
forward.
Another issue is that when she slides back, she ends up sitting on the
front edge of the luggage rack, which gets really uncomfortable after
a while. I've been looking at getting a Givi topcase and the modified
mounting bracket that Happy Trails makes
(http://happy-trail.com/productinfo.aspx?productid
=93&categoryid=53&startpage=1),
since it would appear that having a backrest for her would keep her
off the hard spot on the rack, but it looks like that bracket will
actually have her sitting even further back on the rack.
So I guess my questions are, how have other people dealt with pillion
comfort, and what aftermarket seats are people most happy with?
Thanks,
John

I think that the Russell Day-Long saddle is a 2-tier arrangement: http://www.day-long.com/> I've been looking at my options for aftermarket seats, and I was > wondering if anyone knows of a seat that is actually split into two > sections. On pillion comfort, I tell my wife (with my teeth gritted), "Take the pain, take the pain." (I just saw Platoon again, and couldn't resist.) Actually, I have a JC Whitney trunk that serves my wife pretty well as a backrest - http://klr6500.tripod.com/jcwtrunk.htm - and a Corbin FLAT saddle. To be honest, and much as I love my KLR for just me, and have done mega-mile days on it, it's not really a two-up kind of bike. You can make things better, even much better, but it isn't a 'wing. I just bought a 2001 Klr 650. It has lowering links and a shorter
sidestand. I am over 6' tall and would like to raise the bike back
up to stock height. Anyone got the stock links and sidestand they
would like to sell/trade??

aftermarket seat/givi topcase questions
This just in from "The Great White North",
John,
I have found that, without exception, the best thing to do to eliminate
passenger complaints is to get rid of them. This is by far the easiest
solution however, in the long term may not be the cheapest. I got rid of the
last one when she refused to chew my new leather glove to soften them up for
me.
It still costs me thousands of dollars per year to keep past passengers
both happy and quiet. Long as they get their money I don't hear a peep.
Cheers,
