I replaced the balancer and spring and noticed the new 37mm spring
went on quite easy, in fact too easy because I noticed that any
future adjustments would probably not work because the spring was
already almost slack. Although the balancer was in about the middle
of the range. But I put it back together..
I did a friends bike and the same parts and spring, but his spring
went on like I wanted mine to, I had to stretch and pull it over the
keeper. So when he needs adjustment this spring will pull for him.
So has anyone had this problem, do you know why I have it? The
springs were the same, the bike mileages are similar, my balancer is
about midrange of its adjustment just like the other bike.
Obviously I need a shorter spring, anyone know where I can get one
or is there another reason or fix?
thanks

balancer doohicky spring problem
Mike at Eagle is working on getting some shorter springs. Yes this has been
a problem on a few KLRs. I would suspect your counter balancer chain is
stretched more than most or Big K Quality Control Dept. is up to their old
tricks again.

I remember there being two different lenght of the aftermarket springs
avalible. Are you sure you got the same one for both kits?
Dont remember who sold them... I will dig around and get back with a URL.

I was reading the posts Digest issue 3735 3/31/03 and
saw a few points that I thought I could throw my 2
cents as this is SO MUCH FUN! Thanks! Guys.. I love My
KLR and I enjoy this LIST DAILY!
I have a Question that bpwilldo"
Subject: Newbie KLR650 rider asked as well. That is..
Does the Progressive springs (if so what EX CATE ONES)
in the front shocks help to minimize the FRONT end
DIVING on what is MY Normal HARD stopping as that is
HOW I prefer to ride! and it feels as if it drops the
full 9.1 inches but what ever the amount I would like
to MINIMIZE it, I had a FXR-SP that had anti dive
front forks and what a difference that made (on HD
they used a switched AIR pressure)
RECAP: What Progressive springs in front shocks do
what % of improvement of anti dive? or are they for
off primarily for off roading (in that case not worth
it to me)
To Answer one of your questions bpwilldo I bought the
Kawasaki bags all and the Tank Bag will hold a BUNCH
as it expands when you unzip the second area??? They
say the map window will someday tear out, but there is
a fix for that.
I like being able to put gas in without taking the BAG
off. I can CARRY two full 1 ltr Pepsi's wallet keys,
gloves, and I could stuff more in there as that is
before I even OPEN it up.. in that bag along with in
the window I put GPS and My Cell phone, Police Scanner
garage door opener, all in the map window.. to see
where I have been and who's chasing me;)
Installed the Big GUN Quite series this weekend (took
all of 1/2 hour as I was tilly tallying one could do
it in 10 minutes if wanted to)I think it is a NICE
piece NOT too loud, nice power improvement in the mid
range and great looking..
I am about to do the Larger front rotor (received
Friday) and Braided lines front and rear and will take
pictures if I can remember to and make any special
install notes to help anyone else doing it in th
future and I have done some comprehensive brakes tests
with my stock brakes and full and empty load on bike,
with measurements and I will go out and see if i can
improve the distance with new brakes and still not
flip it...
A3L
A17L
300LB Rider, Always a Full Tank...and about 40 LBS of
gear.. is me..
Freeway Pegs. (HP TRIAL)
Big Gun
Kawasaki Bags all
Kawasaki Taller Windshield (for sale installed less
then 10 min on my bike WRONG for my ride highlight)_
=====
Thanks
Have a Great day.
