wasting time on this group

Post by heretofly2000 » Mon Nov 04, 2002 10:41 pm

I just joined this group as I am a potential customer for a new KLR 650. The bike looks like it is a winner! I thought the sight may provide good insight into the workings and benefits (and faults perhaps) of Kawasaki's 650. Buy for crap's sake, if the discussions keep focusing on gay stuff and dumb ass SUV's then I am wasting my time! Other groups I belong to are more intent on discussing the relatives merits of particular bikes. What gives here?!-

First of all, if you have been reading, this group is MOSTLY filled with useful information. It is not a forum for people talking who are considering a purchase, but mostly for owners talking about fixing, replacing, riding, etc. Just two days ago there was a post by someone considering, and lots of good responses. At the moment we seem to be on a 'Gay Sheep' thread, and without naming names (Jim) there seems to be one (Jim) who is easily thrown off-topic into politics and now it would seem Gay Sheep threads. :) That's OK, it keeps it all fun. To be honest, I'd rather be reading the Gay Sheep thread than posts whining about the content of the group. If you don't like it, post something useful yourself, or simply don't read this group. You obviously haven't been reading the group if you can't find anything useful here. I've been lurking for about 3 months, and know LOTS of stuff about the KLR that I didn't know before.

Heretofly, good morning. You came in at the wrong time if you expected peace and harmony. A Lister never learned that a 'closed mouth gathers no foot' and the others are bored so they egg him on. This will pass. Go out and vote, then for a ride. Welcome to the List and get the KLR. George Escondido, CA heretofly2000 wrote:

This is getting silly. All I have learned from these messages, is that men that have sex with sheep, have a hard time growing hair, probably due to the rubbing motion !!!! Dave Salem OR KLR650 DR350

The KLR is a great bike. We nitpick it to death here (as we do each other), yet 2500 of us still ride one. If there's any detail of its functioning that you need to know, you came to the right place. If you want a little entertainment with your mechanical info, you also came to the right place. But how long can you expect us to talk about the mechanical merits of a 17-year-old bike without getting a little off-topic? Yesterday it was SUV's, today it's gay sheep. Just be glad it isn't politics--or oil(!). Got a question? Just ask. I guarantee you'll find what you need. __Arden

Actually that was me that got the "gay sheep" thinkg going, then had to post a boot inmouth message later when yahoo news reported something about gay sheep and brain disorders or something. Jim just posts his opinions, and sometimes somewhere in all the mixed up rebuttals and cross referenced messages it all goes amuck.. Just as I tell you all Strohs beer is the best stuff. Well, I personally have found this group to be a great source of information and opinion. The members here were a great help before and after I bought my bike. As far as discussing the merrits, mechanicals and faults, let's do that quickly shall we? Merits: Go any where, any time, long range, comfortable, bulet proof. Faults: Not A VFR and not a RM250 (but a strange hybred created by some illicit experamenting on a far away tropical isle?), vibrates, ugly, week front brake. Mechnicals: Doohickies fail, not often, but that's the only thing that ever seems to go wrong, so it get's obsessed over. Every thing else discussed is kinda secondary and petty, like what oil to use and are skid plates or highway pegs a better accesory. If you want a reliable, comfortable bike that CAN (perhaps not SHOULD) go anywhere that you want to, any time that you do, and don't care that it is descidedly un-cool get a KLR-650. Ken kveader@... I agree. I've been "wasting time" on this group for a while now, and have learned things about my KLX (even though this is a KLR group) that have kept it running great for over 20k miles. The educational value of this forum (I never knew there was such a thing as a gay sheep) is invaluable! You don't need to watch the weather chanel to tell when cold weather starts to set in, just look at where the posts are coming from. If you can't relax, find the delete button on occasion, and have a good time with this bunch, then maybe the KLR isn't the machine for you. I've made several friends on this list, many of whom have offered help to someone they never met in person, without any mention of reward or payment. Is this the best group or what? I'll keep "wasting time" on this list till they throw me off! Ok, rant finished, Marshall in Shreveport, La '95 KLXC3 "Blackhorse" (to honor those who served)

I also used the two front bolt holes in the rack but mine didn't line up quite right so I had to shave a bit out of the holes on the mounting plate. Instead of drilling holes for the rear of the mounting plate, I used a flat nylon strap (off of my camping gear shelf) to strap the mounting plate to the rack, just in front of the rear bungee strap hooks. This is fairly solid and I wanted to wait and make sure where I wanted the box to ride. It's been that way for a month or two and I've decided that I'm going to move the whole top box back a few inches. Jeff
