klr fuel tanks, aftermarket

Yes, my friend, I do. Contact IMS Products at http://www.imsproducts.com and ask about the KLR standard tank, and the military tank, which is what I use. The standard tank still uses your stock shrouds. The military tank has rigid shrouds that hold fuel, increasing your range a little bit. They also provide better protection for your radiator, fan, and coolant bottle. Jim jim_ama585601 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

G'Day Jim, I was going to email you again on this topic. Following our last discussion, I emailed IMS and they got back to me with prices and photos (not available on their website at that stage). One of my "problems" is that I have a horrible defect - I continue to punish myself and the bike by riding the KLR through knarly rocky trails which are supposedly suited only to lightweight MXers. I have dumped it pretty hard on both sides, and have completely tore off both of my radiator/coolant shrouds. The tank also has taken a beating, and is looking decidedly second-hand. So, my question is this - how durable is the plastic tank? Have you had any experience in throwing your KLR down on rough rocky surfaces with the military tank? I am not worried about scuffing it up, only whether or not it is going to puncture, crack, etc. All advice appreciated, TIA Cop ya later mate, Dave Gardner St. Louis A-15, ST1100

Mine survived a few falls pretty well. I believe Jim ( Jim are you laying low ?) enjoyed a least one hard fall. His tank came out fine. Bogdan

Hey Seth, Can only vouch on the Kawi tank bag. Zero complaints, reasonably water resistant (in prolonged heavy stuff) with a couple or applications of Kiwi camp dry or equivalent. Partly acts as a tank bra, holds bunches of stuff and's expandable. Love the map pocket, use it all the time for not getting lost. Some have complained (yea, I know it's hard to believe that anyone on this list has ever complained about anything) about the map pocket being weak & ripping. Not to say it can't happen, but haven't experienced that yet, and haven't exactly pampered the tankbag. (or anything else of the A14 for that matter) Impressed with what I've seen of the Wolfman tankbag too. Lister Swampy has one & loves it. Durable, and holds much more than the Kawi tankbag. Will also say that the Givi topcases seems to work real well, along with the Happy Trails Givi adapter. Saddlebags....the Walmart ATV saddlebags I picked up for...3.00 on clearance, work great, along with some tie wraps at various points to keep everything tight. Mostly just use them to carry extra water & tools. All best. Scott A14 "thunderdog" Sorrento, FL [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
