ear plugs ?

Do ya'll ride with earplugs to drown out any sounds your Mighty Steed might be making ? Reason I ask, took a ride yesterday, Wife and I visited a couple spots we hold dear to ourselfs, when we left I stuffed about 1/4 of a cotton ball in each ear and the Mighty Steed was most impressive, figured that last balancer adjustment must have taken care of the chain rattle I was getting around 3500 rpm. Stopped out at her sisters farm and visited a bit, but before leaving I forgot my cotton in my pockets and just rode home, but on the return trip that @#%@#^@ sound was there, not loud, but enuff to drive one crazy when listening for it. I had the camchain adjuster off previously and reset the plunger to a completely flush position and reinstalled the bolt and spring. (I backed this out thinking it was the "doohickey" adjustment without really thinking about it the first time, since I heard the ratchet click a couple clicks that time, figured reset and replace it) Could this adjuster but not taking up enuff slack ? only like 1300 miles on the machine.

Hey Dan, Just because my loud pipe damages other peoples ears, I don't have to damage mine :). Also, I don't have a radio on it like my car, so I have to have something to drown out the noises and give me a false sense of security. Nope. But I do where ear plugs to drown out the low frequency wind noise which WILL make you go deaf eventually if you ride over 35 mph or so for long periods of time. Even with a full face helmet you will suffer permanent hearing loss in time. How soon depends on how much you ride. The big problem is by the time you notice it it's already too late ;-( After 25 years of riding without them I always use them now when going on any ride over 30 minutes or so to hang onto what hearing I have left. -- Dave Morrow IS Manager R.E.Warner & Associates Westlake, Ohio 440-835-9400

ear plugs ?

The "spring-loaded ratcheting camchain adjustor" is a relatively foolproof mechanism, used on most Japanese bikes in one form or another. If you took it off, reset the ratchet, reinstalled the body, then put the spring in and tightened the bolt, there's not much else to do. As for the balance chain adjustor, the spring does the adjusting. Not much else to worry about besides the doohickey breaking. But I have noticed on my A15 that the balancer chain makes a lot more noise if the oil level falls near the low mark on the sight glass. If I top up the oil it gets quieter. Why do I keep getting quoted for things I didn't say? I think Dooden asked the question about slack. I'm pretty sure I just said something smartass. I think it's because your quoting style is totally confusing, I can't tell where your comment ends and where the quoted section begins. Try throwing in a couple line breaks after your comment. That should help. Z DC

This is what your emails look like on my 'puter: I believe if you type in "KLR tech tips" on google you'll find an article by Eldon Carl on that subject. His tech stuff has been excellent information. Also Dave :) Dave wrote:M'kay I got a quick question for you guys, I seem to have lost my KLR .... All I am saying is that adding some whitespace would make your emails so much easier to read. Also, it's strange that your Yahoo webmail isn't quoting the reply-to with ">"'s... It does that with my Yahoo mail, perhaps you have it configured that way? Quoting with ">" really helps keep the email readable. Z DC
