chain press tool...

Post by Brad Davis » Fri Sep 06, 2002 11:35 am

Does anyone happen to know if a chain press is needed to install the master link clip on a 520 chain? Also, what kind of grease is used on the master link pins? Not necessary, but certainely makes life a lot easier. You can try using the old link and a set of vice grips to accomplish the task, but after messing up a master link trying that, I bought a mini chain press which works great. Z DC

Also, what kind of grease is used on the master link pins? >> Brad: I put a new o-ring chain on this spring and used a small, needle-nosed vise-grip to squeeze the master link together to install the lock clip. I did this before putting the chain on the bike-so I had to remove the swingarm. I can't imagine trying to put that chain together while its on the bike without some kind of tool to compress the master link o-rings. I used the grease that came with the new chain to lube the master link. Thanks.
