I got an opportunity to ride Jimmy Lewis' XR400 equipped with one. Way cool! Just shift when ya want. You could be stopped cold in 1st gear and it won't stall. Worked well, but I think Jimmy told me it was about $1,000. Cheers! Ira Agins Santa Fe, NM '02 KLR 650 "Verde" '97 BMW K1100LT "Red Rover"

Fascinatin' device. Of course, like many technical developments in motorcycling, it's not new. Jawas of the '50s, '60s and '70s had a device that automatically disengaged the clutch whenever the shift lever was moved. One model in the mid '60s gilded the lily by adding a centrifugal clutch to allow clutchless starts, stops and shifting. The shift lever, by the way, did double duty as a kick start. Of course, the Jawa box didn't shift very well. That was OK because the bikes weren't particularly fast. On the other hand, they didn't corner too well, either. Then again, their brakes were not exactly the best. On the whole, very well-balanced machines.

I recently read a review in one of the magazines, but I don't remember which one. I think it might have been that Dual Sport mag that came with the AMA mag 2 months ago. They were very high on it. -Bryan

My buddy and I ride enduros and cross country. He borrowed a CR 250 with one and said it was awesome and is getting one for his KTM 250 exc. However, he used to ride Husqavarna automatic so he has some auto experience. Dean

And it was up for first.

I had a '68 250. Kick start was definately weird. What made it even stranger for me was that I also owned a 650 Bonny at the same time. Jawa - shift on the left, up for first. Bonny - shift on the right, down for first. Made for some interesting mis-shifts. =:0 Cheers! Ira Agins '02 KLR 650 "Verde" '97 BMW k1100LT "Red Rover"

mt21's and tires

What, specifically, is the difference between tube type and tubeless type tires. Could you not run a tube in either one? Douglas Dick mailto:ddick2@... -----Original Message----- From: mjsonzini [mailto:msonzini@...] Sent: August 12, 2002 1:03 PM To: DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_klr650] Re: MT21's and tires Bob---Most tyre manufacturers do state so if the tyre comes in both versions. A tubeless will typically state "tubeless" or "TL". A tube tyre might say "TT" or have something that say to use a tube if not on a TL rim. http://www.metzelermoto.com shows the Enduro 3 as being available in both TT and TL depending on size. Of course, you can always through a tube inside a TL tire. Mike
