Last weekend I bought the Sears Craftsman M/C lift. It is made very well and is stable when the KLR is elevated. It came with 2 ratchet style straps which was a plus, maybe they all come with straps, I don t know. I was hoping to be able to elevate the bike in a way that I could disassemble the Uni-Trac suspension for maintenance. With the straps I can secure the bike with the front far enough back to do this but the problem is that the front part of the frame, where it is curved, is right on the forward lift surface. This makes the bike just a little wobbly, even with the straps. Would an aluminum bash plate provide enough underbody flat surface to increase stability, or do I need to fabricate a wood undercarriage of some kind that would fit between the bike and the lift. I have the OEM plastic bash plate at the moment. How have you guys with the Sam s (Laurin Lift I think) lift dealt with this? The Craftsman lift was on sale for $99 last week. I had to order mine, and won't see it until the end of August. The sales guy said people are waiting at the doors on the first morning of the sale, and buy them out right away. The display looks very good, though, and the tool club price can't be beat... I have the bash plate I bought from Fred Hink, (Moose plate?), and because I haven't had an official lift, I've just been using a floor jack with a large cup under the bash plate to get the whole bike up in the air for tire changes, or whatever. I'm sure that the bash plate would make the bike rock solid on the Sears lift - at least, I sure HOPE it does! Mark, Let me know if the bash plate does the job. If so I'll probably have to buy one. I am looking at the one made by Utah Sportcycles (http://www.utahsportcycle.com/skplates.cfm) . They make the bashplate for Dual-Star but modify the design so that it will fit the Dual Star waterpump and radiator shields. The guy's at Utah Sprotcycle said there standard plate provides enough waterpump protection in their view so that will be the one I will probably get. I think that's the brand I may have gotten, although I didn't connect it until reading your message just now. In the plastic bag with the bash plate was a Utah Sport Cycles sticker... I'll let you know how the lift works out, but if a single round floor jack cup works, an official bike lift would almost have to. In the meantime, you could probably use a couple pieces of 3/4 plywood screwed together, or a square piece of heavy sheet steel or whatever between the bottom of your bike and the lift.
