I replaced my fork seals and installed an SRC Fork Brace (the kind Dual Star sells) today. The fork brace install instructions are very insistant on cutting big chunks out of your fender to keep it from hitting the brace and driving it into the tire if you bottom out. The result of this would be instant braking as you are applying maximum force on the front suspension and you would surely sail over the handlebars. I think that the SRC brace is somewhat unique in having this problem. It does not rest on a mechanical stop like the Happy Trails and the Superbrace does. It simply clamps around a rubber seal to hold it in place vertically. Before you tighten it down you can easily slide the brace down right onto the tire or move it up an inch above the tire. Anyone with a brace can check out potential problems by poppin the fork caps and letting the forks colapse and look for interferences. An advantage of the SRC brace is it provides an extra layer of dust sealing and can be moved up if you install a tire with larger knobs. A disadvantage I found was that there was very little clearance between the left side of my front tire and the brace. In fact, I had to true the wheel to keep it from rubbing on the tire at one spot in the revelution. You can't install wider-than-stock tires with this brace. The brace definately improves handling. I headed for the nearst wash after installation. There was a huge difference. I like the dagger syle fork protectors that it comes with. It is 3X harder to install than a Happy Trails brace. -Bryan A12 Tucson

I just got the NEW and IMPROVED Superbrace. I'm not sure if it's much on an improvement. They supply a couple of pop rivets to attach the bottom of the dust boot to the brace. There is also a drain hole at the rear of the brace. I may be sending it back to Superbrace and try a different manufacture.

After a day spent pounding my KLR up rocky hillclimbs, through the woods, over logs, and down trails covered with 3" chunk gravel, etc.. I will take this moment to plug the Happy-trails brace. Someone mentioned that the superbrace was adjustable for height, unlike the happy-trails. The happy-trails brace is adjustable, if making a different sized set of spacer counts as "adjustable". I made smaller spacers to bring the crosspiece closer to the tire, so it would be less likely to gouge the fender when the front bottoms. I think Tim at Happy-trails offers different spacer heights. Does anyone else have the Summers Racing Components Fork Brace on their KLR650? I installed mine about a month ago, and was immediately disappointed with the way it fits. Because I run Pirelli MT21 tires, stock size, I had to position the brace at least 1/4" higher than it's intended position. I left about 3/16" clearance between the knobs and the lowest part of the brace. The brace worked excellent, as advertised, providing substantially greater stability. Then during a road ride, the brace tore apart my knobbies, because there still wasn't enough clearance (tire expands a bit in diameter at speed). I told the distributer of my problems. He agrees that I installed everything correctly, and he has had other complaints about this product, but Summers Racing Components is not willing to do anything about it. The distributer is perfectly willing to take back the brace, but that doesn't solve my problem. I wanted a fork brace, I paid the big bucks for it, paid for the shipping, paid for the import duty, cut my front fender to install it correctly, and ruined my front tire. If I send it back now, I'll have to pay more shipping, my fender is still cut up, my tire is still damaged, and I won't have the frock brace I've been wanting. I'm considering doing my own modifications to make it work (spacers and collets), but the point is that it shouldn't have come to this. Questions, comments!!!! ;(

magneto rotor removal

Howdy all. I had asked earlier about a part number for the magneto rotor removal tool. I certainly appreciate the good advice for the aftermarket unit, which sounds like a smart way to go. However, I get stuff at dealer cost (plus I have no trouble returning it if it breaks), so does anyone have the part number for the Kawi tool handy? I know, I know - I should really buy that darn manual.... Thanks for your time gord
