nklr: coke is it! = hoax
The merits of water are often underrated. The coke segment, however,
is a hoax. See http://www.snopes2.com/cokelore/acid.htm for
details. Highlights are: "Anyone who conducts these experiments
will find himself at the end of two days with a whole tooth, a whole
nail, and one very soggy t-bone." and "The next time you're stopped
by a highway patrolman, try asking him if he's ever cleaned blood
stains off a highway with Coca-Cola. If you're lucky, by the time he
stops laughing he'll have forgotten about the citation he was going
to give you. "

I'm glad you pointed this out as a hoax. The nail and Coke thing was
going around when I was in 3rd grade. I guess I had a good teacher
because she called BS on the claim that Coke would dissolve a nail.
After trying to reason with 3rd grade minds for a few minutes she
gave up. Next day she brought a Coke and a nail to the classroom.
She put the nail in a class and poured the Coke. Day by day we
watched as nothing happened to the nail.
Mold grew on the Coke and she turned the whole thing into a science
project.
Basically she taught us about mold and the all important, "don't
believe everything you read/hear."

anything wrong with the klr650 2001?
Hi everyone,
I've just subscribed to this group, I hope posting this kind of quesiton is "allowed".
After a few years without a bike, I'm now in the process of buying a machine and the KLR650 has all my attention.
I have (at least) two questions on my mind :
1) Is there anything wrong with the 2001 KLR650 sold in Canada? It seems to me I can get a pretty good deal on a new bike (5200 $CAN) and I'm wondering if it's because 2001 is a bad year or something.
2) In his Adventure Motorcycling Handbook, Chris Scott mentions "the current LKR/KLX650 models are snazzy street bikes: light, fast and small tanked, they're not suited for an overland biker's needs". Is the 2001 KLR650 of this breed?
Good day and thanks for any help,
Jean-Philippe Valois
