I'm surprised that nobody has developed a cheap fork brace? The Dual Star one is nice, but after you convert it to $CDN, it's almost the same as a KLX / KX front end conversion.

I'm going to have to get some new glasses. You really don't want to know what I thought I read. Gonna have to go to the archives and read up on this front end conersion.

A poorly fitting fork brace is worse than no fork brace at all. They require precision manufacturing and quality control, which costs money. How much can you get a set of KLX or KX forks and steering clamps for? Devon adamavis wrote:

cheap fork braces

I thought I was just being cheap thinking that. Upwards towards $200 USD for a small chunk of metal with a few screws just don't sound right to my wallet. A machined and hardened Camshaft maybe, but a fork brace ? Sorry but until I notice enuff of this front end twisting to make me care to depart with that type of money, they will stay in the catalogs and on the websites for me. Sorry if that hurts anybodies thoughts, but it just dont seem to have enuff bang for my buck. Maybe a set of progressive springs has the bang for the buck at under $100, but a brace for close to $200 ? Seems kinda silly as Kawi selling pannier heat shields or whatever its called, nothing more than a bent rod with eyelets welded on for bolt holes, then painted black. Bolts on muffler side of bike. Seems real silly to pay $80 some bucks for that. Being cheap as I am, I will slide this old used, stained soapbox back under the desk now. -- In DSN_klr650@y..., "adamavis" wrote:

Thats EXACTLY what I'm talking about. I can make what Kawasaki sells, myself, for about $8. I don't see how they can charge 10x that for as cheap a piece as that. There are fork braces out there for $100, Telefix and Superbrace. But $100 is the absolute maximum I'd pay for a brace. $200 seems WAY too high. Ryan

Well I'm not cheap, but $300 for a fork brace which will improve the handling somwhat, but only marginally compared to a Front end upgrade. (You can get a front end for as little as $300 if you look hard enough.) The KLR's stock forks would still be soft as hell and you'd need to add minimum progressive springs, or you could spring for a race tech kit. But keep in mind they're still skinny little tubes. Then there's the front brake issue, more for ON road purposes though but still a good point. I think the K9 Fork brace is priced right, but I don't think it's worth the money. just my $0.02..... P.S If any one could provide specs for the superbrace, I could see about developing a clone so to speak. Totally legit of course. Adam

http://www.superbrace.com/products/4430.htm For reference of course, but the Superbrace looks nice, still $150 shipped. The K9 is the one with alot of bolts on it right ? The design on the Superbrace just appears to be more rigid looking. Im sure some of the experts in here could confirm or deny that however. Some of the other experts will point out that the Superbrace has less fasteners and could possibly with enuff twist, break these fasteners that hold the brace together. And last but not least, the other other experts will point out that adding an additional 1.3 pounds of unsprung weight to the front of the bike will result in complete failure of the wheelie popping bounce supplied to the rear wheel by the special coated steel front sprocket that only the elite are allowed to install on there tricked out rides. [gave that thread a haircut]

I for one am glad that Happy Trails, Super Brace, Dual Star and others have made and/or market the braces, invested the time in research into making sure they work right, invested the time and money into being able to produce brace after brace within spec, invested the time and money into making them flexible enough to prevent fork binding, but strong enough do some good. I have no problem paying the asking prices because I know I get a quality product, I support someone who is supporting our sport, and I like added performance it gives the KLR. So if you think you can build a better mouse trap, put your money where your mouth is and make it. Gino... asking what's the difference between a puppy and a cheapskate?
