long tar, short gravel

Post by t31n6 » Thu Jan 31, 2002 6:41 am

In June I'll be riding my A14 to Colorado for some logging road mesa riding. The ride out is just over 2 thousand miles, and with the A14 stock sprockets, the trip via the interstate will require many hours at 5000 to 5500 rpm. (I can't take the time to go out and back on secondary roads.) Question: will the KLR engine and drive train handle the hours at high rev alright or should I switch to a lower tooth sprocket for the trip out and back to a stock sprocket once I'm on the gravel?

T31N6: You will be fine with the stock gearing. I would not go over 5500rpm for extended periods of time, but that is just my opinion. Several on the list have traveled 30,000+ miles without mishap. John --- t31n6 wrote:

Detergent? Wax? I take mine for a 10 minute ride in the rain. Washed. :-)
