I was reading in the older listings, someone wrote that greasing your muffler bearings will make your bike faster,i looked all over that bike and cant find them,i was also told the green klrs were faster than the blue ones,so i traded my 99 blue bodywork for 02 green/silver,and i cant tell any difference, did the silver mess it up so there was no diference?,i even squirted a bunch of grease down my tail pipe thinking maybe it will get into the muffler bearing, but all it did was get my neighbors car and cat all dirty and smoke,no faster!.any ideas?Dave A-13

If you muffler tweets then for sure your muffler bearings need greasing because they are dry and squeaking for lack of lubrication. Peanut oil is said to be a good lubricant and I have thought the following might work..haven't tried it yet so maybe you can be the first. Go to the grocery store and buy raw peanuts. Stuff raw peanuts down the muffler, maybe 20 or 30 of them. Stuff a ball of cotton or screen or something down there too so the nuts don't blow out. Run the bike maybe 100 miles or until the peanuts start smelling good. Remove peanuts, eat them. Hopefully some of the oil dripped down to you muffler bearings. Keep us posted. Brad

You've been taken in by a lots of BS on the muffler bearings. If you pull out the kanutin valve and have it chromed you'll see that HP gain for sure. --- redufo1 wrote:

Dave....Stop!!!!! Brad is giving you some bad information!!!!!! Do not put 20 or 30 raw peanuts in your muffler. Your stock muffler is much bigger than Brad might know. You should be able to get 50 or 60 peanuts in there. Drive it about 500 mile off road too get a great crunky peanut butter. GREAT ON CRACKERS!!!! I hope I stopped you from doing what Brad told you to do. Brad sounds like he might be nuts!!!! As far as the oil getting to the muffler bearings, do not worry. They are self lubricating. Doug

I haven't tried the Muffler Roasted Peanuts yet. You might want to try bacon in your muffler and strap a couple slices of bread to your exhaust manifold. When you get to work your breakfast will be ready. Just peal it off and eat. The bacon grease will remain on the muffler bearings for a longer period of time due to its saturation factor. I have actually put on some weight. By the way if you enjoy having a smoke after breakfast while sitting on your KLR , check out JC WHITNEY. They used to carry a Combination Gas Cap and Ashtray. [snip] Thats kinda funny, but I was figuring maybe closer to 70 peanuts, but I guess size variation would determine that. On a simular note, do not forget the screen over the end of the pipe, this happened to us once, in the barn the mice used the exhaust pipe on a old tractor to store acorns. But in our human desire to be lazy, we started this said tractor to plow snow, well after about 5- 10 minutes of warm up time, we gently nudged the throttle forward and *BAM* looked like a Roman Candle went off, out came a flaming fireball in a 100 year old wood barn, by the time we got that old 4 banger to idle down about another 8 shots were launched. Good thing the old well pump works still, because there we were running around stomping on red hot cherry sized fireballs and tossing water on everything. Again if you forget the screen over the end not only will you loose your USFS approval, the ATF might consider it a Cannon and arrest you. Ride-um if you got-um Duden A15 Pilot

The grease will do it's job a lot better, if, at the same time you top off the turn signal fluid.
