I would call them "dirt road bikes". The Honda Transalp, Africa Twin, Guzzi
Quota etc fall into this category.
A good dirt rider can ride just about anything anywhere. Bob Hall the winner
of the 2001 Iron Butt Rally rode his BMW RS1150 (or 1200 I forget) up the
"Haul Road" to Prudhoe Bay and back in the mud. I think the total distance
was between 400 and 500 miles.
