[snip] Want smooth and fast buy a Goldwing Want a dirt tossing screamer get a Motorcross bike Tractor like go where ever you want buy a ATV Something that can cut grass buy a Hydrostat drive riding mower Want to "Trick" your KLR im sure there are lots of folks willing to sell you all kinds of stuff, and many folks here that will tell you there opinions on what is best, some of the reading I have gotten here just helps me understand more about the bike, its shortfalls and its ability to take what seems to me massive amounts of abuse. But im getting old I suspose, and never was a power/speed freak, I actually geared mine down to go slower offroad. ( Not yet Sprockets are waiting for spring to be installed ) but when I offroad, there is normally just that.. No road. Just my $.02 worth, feel free to ignore it. Duden A15 Pilot>

My engine is actually in an off road buggy, which i race against others so i
am trying to get as much power to the ground as i can. I also have two dirt
bikes so that is not an issue. Some people like just putting alond and some
are a little more extreme i guess . Each to there own i say.

Corey:
How do the KLR650 motors hold up in the off road buggy world? That
seems like it would be the most extreme use for the motor.
Do the clutches last more than a week, etc? How much does a KLR650
off road buggy tip the scales at? Where are some photos?
Thanks,
Pat / Austin

Corey-
If I remember right, one of a lister's friends did the whole port and
polish thing on his KLR to no avail... Apparently you're looking at a
fuel/air feed bottleneck as the 40mm carb isn't truly 40mm, more like
37.5mm (Mike, can you confirm?), and I have no idea if it is
enlargeable. If you want more power, the KLR motor probably isn't the
best choice, an XR650 motor (old, air cooled) would work better, a new
XR650R motor would be the bomb (though expensive).

Gino can tell you more about this: a while ago somebody developed A
750 top end for the KLR. Most of us mortals just make do with what's
there..............

Corey, What have you done to the engine so far?
I got a friend that has port and polished heads Redgread the cams, Bored the
carb,
But now he is putting on a big 44mm carb, No report yet on the 44mm,
But the biggest gain he has had so far was with boring the stock carb out to
a true 40mm, As it sits the stocker is like a 37mm. He got a 5 mph increase
boring the carb. We are looking for just a little more OOPH. Not balls out
speed. We both have big bore sport bikes for that....

Fred,
How about your Hopi-art-guy on a chopper as a design? We need these
shirts, Fred. Need them!
p.s. Anyone else on the list going to the Cleveland bike show next
Saturday? If you want to meet up, send me a note off line. I haven't been
able to follow the list closely as of late.
