nklr - quick aluminum and magneto covers
Fred recently mentioned a new product called "quick aluminum" or
something like that.
Is it an epoxy product that is just for aluminum ( such as engine
case repairs)?
Is it as versatile as JB Weld?
Fred, could you give some some info on this product?
On the subject of shifter impaled magneto covers, I am considering
adding a aluminum plate guard piece to my just installed bash plate
(Thank's Fred for the quick responce to my order). Does anyone with
more riding experience than me (most of the world's population) think
a small plate afixed to the left side of the bash plate, that extends
up between the shifter and magneto case is a good or bad idea?
Billy in Dripping Springs ---- been riding all week to work and days
off suffering from appalling conditions like 60-70'sF., sunny days,
dry roads.

Kind of like how the new Dual-Star shifter works, except the protection is part of the cover instead of being affixed to the shift lever... Good idea? Bad idea? This looks like a reply to my earlier post, but it is really one more late question. To the listers that have suffered shift lever punctures from drop/fall misfortunes, How big is the actual damage? How deep, etc? Perhaps if you can post a picture of the damage, it might help us design some sort of armor-like protection.> > On the subject of shifter impaled magneto covers, I am considering > adding a aluminum plate guard piece to my just installed bash plate.

Billy,
Isn't living/working in the South a pain? (grinning a lot)
Seriously, if you can keep some clearance between the shifter and case guard,
I can't see any problem with it. Just be sure you can remove the bash
plate/case guard assembly in order to remove the left side cover (mag cover?)

PS. Are you even considering the rally in Moab, Ut this year?

Richard,
I'm no engineer, maybe one of the more adept types on the list can confirm or
dispel this but it seems that by attaching the plate to the engine case, you
may just set yourself up for a larger hole in the case if the impact is
severe enough. Maybe I'm just paranoid?
I would vote to put the protection on the shifter or between the lever and
engine case.
Just my . 02 worth,

Do both. Mister_T Melbourne Australia> Kind of like > how the new Dual-Star shifter works, except the protection is part of the > cover instead of being affixed to the shift lever...
