klr starter disaster

Post by klrsidewinder » Mon Dec 24, 2001 3:59 pm

Well, I bought this KLR600 for the motor to power a project buggy. Turns out the starter is toast!!!!! The starter turns fine but the drive gear and one idler gear is stripped!!!`:(( Does anyone have a parts bike or know someone that has a starter for sale? Looks like the gear is part of the rotor. Anywhere to get a new rotor? Kaw. OEM is out of the question!(cost) I'm thinking maybe I should have bought a bike that ran and spent more to get more. The more I find out about this "thumper" the more I like it. I was told that the '85's were recalled by TEAM GREEN cause of starter problems. Anyone know anything about this? I selected this motor because of it's specs. single cylinder, lots of grunt, water cooled, electric start(Yeh, right!!!) Where a good place to buy a manual? Thanks for the info, Ron
