list censorship
At the risk of sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong, allow me to
make two comments.
First, I joined this list last week and got a nice email that listsed
the three rules of the list: a) No spamming b) No personal attacks c)
use 'NKLR' for posts not narrowly KLR650 specific.
No mention was made in the email regarding salty and/or profane
language. Based on that, my personal assumption would be that posters
are left to decide for themselves.
Second, while the Bill of Rights might allow a lot of freedom in
regards to personal expression, this list is being provided as a free
benefit from those nice folks at Yahoo, and by the free labor of the
maintainer/moderator/whatever.
I believe that Yahoo and our erstwhile maintainer are allowed to run
their list in whatever way thay want to. If that means that salty
language is cause for involuntary removal, that's their decision to
make. If people don't like the policies in place on the list, they are
free to start their own list and run it their way.
I would request that the 'welcome aboard' message for this list be
modified to reflect any new rules on the list. I did 8 years in the
Navy and I can get sort of colorful if I'm not careful.
