how do you hotwire a klr?

Post by Dale Johnson » Wed Nov 28, 2001 2:19 am

Well, My bug is broke, my Jeep is broke and the wife needs the van for an appointment tomorrow. So I got a new shift lever today and now I can't find my key. I think it fell out of my van and is alongside the road somewhere. So I need to get to work tomorrow and have no key. Can't afford a locksmith till next payday. Has anyone ever hotwired a KLR? I have never hotwired a KLR before, but I think if you run a jumper wire from the + on the battery, to the + on the coil, then bump the starter with a screwdriver. It worked on my old chevys anyway.. MotorMark

Dale, 1) Disconnect the 6-wire connector from the ignition switch. Using the 6-wire connector from the main harness: 2) Connect the WHITE & the BROWN wires together. This provides power to most circuits. 3) Connect the RED & the RED/WHITE wires together. This provides power to the tailight & meter lights. 4) Start your engine ... ... you MUST use your kill switch to stop your engine. ... disconnect the jumper from the White & Brown wires when you park your bike. Remember, the WHITE wire is always hot. Professor A9 Federal Way, WA. [USA] ++++++++++++ --- "Dale Johnson" wrote: [snip]

Good directions, but you forgot the first few steps of hotwiring: - Wait till dark - rip headlight off with crowbar - tear up switch with screwdriver - etc...

Professor, Can we assume that you were not always a professor and you are now living under the Witness Protection Program? Great information. George Escondido, CA

Hey Jim that was by far the easyest way to go it took two electrical connectors no wire and was done pretty quick, works great thanks a million. Dale
